Americans are responding to Hurricane Katrina with a massive outpouring of giving, at times overwhelming call centers and computer servers set up by charities to field donations.
Total donations passed the $200 million mark by Friday, four days after the storm slammed into the Gulf Coast. The bulk of those funds were collected by The American Red Cross, which said it has raised $196.9 million from individuals and corporations.

Keep ‘em comin’! You can still contribute to the American Red Cross Hurricane 2005 Relief Fund or any one (or more!) of a number of other great organizations out there mobilizing to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. If you do contribute, please log it here at the TTLB contribution page as he is tracking the amount of money raised from each blog. Logging it is totally anonymous – in other words, you don’t have to give a name. Just an amount, the charity you donated to, and the blog that encouraged you to do so.

It was an article about US funds, not the UK, although I’m sure the UK has contributed/offered a much-appreciated great deal.
I must be losing my mind. I don’t know why I thought I read UK.
I saw PB on TV this morning urging Americans to give what they can specifiaclly to the Red Cross ( just like Sister Toldjah) and the Salvation Army. In the same speech he noted the amount of near 200 million. He also affirmed that future relief would be rapidly deployed to those who need it most.
In addition to that some of his top aides also met with leaders of the Black caucus today for over two hours. Positive results according to Elijah Cummings
