I blogged a little over a month ago about the birth of Susan Anne Catherine Torres, born to Susan Torres, who had been brain-dead for several months after she lost consciousness from a stroke. Doctors had kept Susan Torres alive because of her pregnancy and delivered the baby at the 24th week of development, which was when doctors decided Baby Torres would have a reasonable chance to survive.
The AP is reporting today that Susan Anne Catherine Torres has died:
McLEAN, Va. (AP) — An infant born last month to a severely brain-damaged woman has died after emergency surgery to repair a perforated intestine, the family said Monday.
Susan Anne Catherine Torres, born prematurely on Aug. 2 after her mother was on life support for three months, died of heart failure Sunday, a family statement said.
The infant’s condition had deteriorated rapidly during the weekend, according to the family. She died at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington.
Hat tip: Charmaine Yoest, who said:
We are comforted only in the thought that she is now with her mother, and in the strong arms of her heavenly Father.
Amen.
Oh my goodness. I’m so sorry to read this.
This is so sad. I too send along my condolenses. I pray that the father is able to over come. – Lorica
