Great news on the Flight 93 Memorial front. Remember the red crescent shape of the original memorial that caused quite a stir because it looked so much like a tribute to Islam? Looks like the architect has since rethought that design and is prepared to come up with something that would be a more appropriate and honorable tribute to the heroes of Flight 93:
WASHINGTON – The architect of the memorial to a plane downed in western Pennsylvania on Sept. 11, 2001, said Wednesday he would work to satisfy critics who complained that it honors terrorists with its crescent-shaped design.
Designer Paul Murdoch said he is "somewhat optimistic" that the spirit of the design could be maintained.
"It’s a disappointment there is a misinterpretation and a simplistic distortion of this, but if that is a public concern, then that is something we will look to resolve in a way that keeps the essential qualities," Murdoch, 48, of Los Angeles, said in a telephone interview.

How classic. Let us rephrase this a touch. “It is a disappointment that the PUBLIC is stupid (misinterpeting) and simplistic. We will look into something that these troglydites will be able to live with”. Gee thanks Mr. Murdoch I appreciate your sensitivity in this matter. I am certain terrorist all over the world keep pictures of the heros of Flight 93 in their wallets. What does it take to wake these people up to the fact that we are in a war with evil. – Lorica the Simplistic
I’m an artist by profession, I think I can safely say that symbolism is part and parcel of what we are and what we do. For an artist to create a symbol that he himself can’t recognize, (I consider architects to be artists) is beyond absurd.
