Redirect their anger and negativity onto others.

It’s not healthy to be unable to IDentify problems for what they really are in order to find solutions for them.

When dealing with a natural disaster there is that nasty little problem of States rights. You see FEMA in their charter can only opporate in an emergency. If the disaster hasn’t happened it is abit hard to have an emergency. I applaud Brown for having everything there ready and waiting. I think that General Honore hit the nail on the head when he was talking to the reports about Hurricane Rita. These pinheaded reporters wanted to know why this wasn’t done for Katrina what was being done for Rita. Honore stepped forward and called them on it. Told them that they had a choice to be part of the solution not part of the problem You see in Katrina the News reports were absolutely part of the problem. They did confuse folk. Including those in charge. Then there are other oddities like the whole waiting 24 hours to decide if this was an emergency situation. GOOD GOD WOMAN THERE IS A CAT 5 HURRICANE HEADING FOR YOUR CITY. It’s a damn emergency. Hell I have no doubt in my mind that Gov. Blanco had to get on the phone and do a conference call with Hill and Bill and Kerry and…… whoever, that is why she needed the 24 hours on Saturday to decide to declare a state of emergency on Sunday. This whole thing with how Katrina was handled was just another attempt to make Bush look bad. There is no argument or “document”, especially if Dan Rather’s fingerprints are on it, that will change my mind. If you believe anything else I have a bridge I could sell ya too. – Lorica

I don’t know whether I’m more concerned that bush is spying on all of us or that he wouldn’t permit the media to report the fact that he was spying before the 2004 election. Had we the people known of this unlawful spying would he have been re-elected? Is that 2 stolen elections? Peace

tommy, Louisana is far away from you. Let me bring the focus to your backyard, CT. Remember the Mianus River bridge collapse on I-95? That happened because local CT Democrats starting with Gov. Grasso and Gov. O’Neill decided to rape the tolls, highway maintenance funds for money to prop up the Democrat regimes in Hartford, Bridgeport, and New Haven. Complaints made about the bridge making strange sounds were ignored because the CT highway dept. had no funds. 6 people died because of Liberal Democrat funding games. FEMA wasn’t involved, nor the Army Corps of Engineers. Much the same scenario with the levees in NO.

Tommy, laugh all you want. There is much reading to do by you. FEMA states and has stated FOR YEARS that the FEMA response is not to be expected for 72 hours after a disaster. What you “feel” is irrelevant. What the “facts” are are important. FEMA does not do law enforecement or search and rescue.

Nobody here said that Michael Brown should not have been in charge. But what is imperative for you to understand is that FEMA is not what the press seemed to ALL OF A SUDDENT think FEMA was supposed to be. There are a NUMBER of organizations (over 100) that worked together AFTER the Katrina DISASTER.

There were government organizations and private organizations and all I hope you can LEARN is that individuals everywhere failed in their responsibility to:
1) Report accurately (the press)
2) Evacuate (the citizens)
3) Work cooperatively with allowing American Red Cross to bring supplies to those who need it (Louisiana Department of Health Services)
4) Make decisions (Governor Blanco as reported by Mayor Nagin wouldn’t decide for over a day)

The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers only were funded by all previous Congresses and Louisiana to protect New Orleans up to a category 3 hurricane. I will NOT sit here and fault the Army Corp of Engineers nor the people who funded their work (though I will fault people in Louisisana who diverted funds to other projects). Katrina was Category 5 and it was the fault of the politicians at the state and federal level for CARING more about entitlement programs rather than INFRASTRUCTURE.

Infrastructure is more important yet liberals want to grow government and impoverish our ability to take care of infrastructure. CA used to spend up to 20% of it’s funds on infrastructure decades ago. Now it spends less than 1%. Aint that great. Maybe you can look up some time the levee problems surrounding Sacramento where I live and then when the disaster hits you can CALLOUSLY call into question FEMA’s response (many great caring individuals work there) or Army Corp of Engineer’s lack of whatever.

You are irresponsible at best. You are lazy and don’t do your homework and I’m sorry ST but Tommy is not responsible with his words and now I’m calling him on it.

tommy, your looking was the width of a paper deep. The Corps of Engineers only consult, THEY DON’T RUN, HONCHO, OR BOSS these operations. The levees were all contracted out to companies making heavy contributions to the LA Democrat party. When deficiencies were brought to the attention of the authorities, the Democrats flunkies dismissed them.

tommy, you really have to do your homework. You are flunking. FYI, I live on the Misssissippi. The government has funded rebuilding of the locks and dams up here. The Corps of Engineers sign off on the reports and plans, but DO NOT DO THE WORK. That is being done by UNION CONTRACTORS.

You know this last post by bak is why I like this site. What does FEMA stand for? What was hurricane Katrina? It was 43 who put an incompetent crony to lead this Federal agency not us on the left. By the way the U.S.ARMY Corp of Engineers built the levees. Last time I looked the army was a federal responsibility.

I’d say the press were highly incompetent during Katrina (during a disaster it’s serious - they are incompetent on a regular basis). They didn’t help the evacuation before the storm. They didn’t tell people then need to leave after the levee broke. They kept repeating to the American people their belief that FEMA was responsible for things they weren’t responsible for like Law Enforcement and not getting supplies to people when it was Lousiana government responsible for denying the American Red Cross (managed by FEMA) from getting supplies to people.

The press showed their lack of knowledge and laziness and the sheople of America like Tommy believe them.

BTW, That was fun channeling liberals up there. I should do that more often…

Not perfect Liberal Baklava, but he did do a wonderful job. Biloxi, Gulfport and Bay St. Louis, were virtually destroyed. In Alabama, Bayou La Batre and Dauphin Island were also leveled. Did we hear about the problems that New Orleans have. Just seems like once the cameras were turned on, the brains of many stopped working. – Lorica

PCD the point I am making is first off a lot of ilegials have kids that were born here so that makes the kids citizens. Secondly an amnesty is just pragmatic. The can’t and won’t round up all the illegals in the country. the heck with it IMHO. Cut em slack and get serious about shutting down the border. It been 4years since 9/11 and we have had an increase of illegal immigration not a decrease. Department of Homeland Security my ass.

Tommy, Amnesty, Shrink the INS? Why not just open the border and yell, “Y’all Come! Take my job, please!”

Another amnesty just tells foreigners that go ahead, break our immigration laws, they mean nothing.

If our immigration laws mean nothing, why militarize the border? You’ll just give tne next group of illegals amnesty in a few years just like you are trying to do now, and what was done before.

In this scenario, shrinking if not eliminating the INS would make sense since you don’t care about immigration laws.

They did. The court martials were going on before the press got a hold of it. Then the NY Times ran more than 40 front pagers as if no disciplinary action was going on. Probably why you had the impression that none was being taken until the press got a hold of it. Really Tommy you must start reading more.

1) People disagree with those statements as the solution
2) Some people would be calling for impeachment over the abuse of power for militarizing the border.
3) If people disagree with you Tommy, why do you insist that they are either a) incompetent or b) not caring. It’s not a good tactic. It doesn’t add to the debate.

I don’t believe amnesty should be granted. It happened before and exacerbated the problem because more people thought they just needed to get here and then they could be citizens whether through future amnesty’s or the past one or what. Those who are here illegally should not be here. Once you start deportations the rest of the illegal immigrants would get the hint that they can’t stay. We just need to start. 1 or 2 or 3 or 100. Just start. That’s my feeling. It doesn’t cost much to start. It’s the job of existing INS as far as I’m concerned. INS is not the reason for the budget problem either.

And yes. Border Patrol should be beefed up and and a fence should erected. The environment is being hurt in that area of the country and home owners are losing their homes property value and are moving out. Farmers have had to abandon their land.

I’m sorry you are so unhappy that you make this thread intersting. And I’m sorry to go off topic ST. The point here is that there are real problems and solutions that could be debated. Democrats just seem to be over-crisis oriented and seem to be quick to call Republicans NOT caring and INCOMPETENT and want to focus on impeaching someone for doing something that every president has done since FISA.

It’d be good if Democrats changed. I don’t have the magic words to do such. And you’d think I would since I was a liberal pre-1991.

Well as far as your last staement goes those knucleheads got what they deserved but the chain of command should never had let it get as bad as it did. Somewhere along the line they knew what was going on and they should have put a stop to it the second they found out. Look what you saying about the size of government is a very valid concern baklava. The most obvious thing that can done immediately is to offer all illegal immigrants amnesty,militarize the border and shrink the size and scope of the INS. But that won’t happen politicans in this country generally don’t want to make the painful desicions that need to be made they just put it off. on both sides of the aisle.
