Cindy Sheehan to be in audience during the SOTU

Posted by: ST on January 31, 2006 at 7:57 pm

Thanks to House Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-6th District -CA) . Via the AP:

Rep. Lynn Woolsey, D-Calif., is hosting Cindy Sheehan, whose vigil for her 24-year-old soldier son killed in Iraq, Casey, reinvigorated the anti-war movement.

“I’m proud that Cindy’s my guest tonight,” Woolsey said in an interview before the speech. “She has made a difference in the debate to bring our troops home from Iraq.”

Earlier Tuesday, Woolsey offered Sheehan a ticket to the speech – Gallery 5, seat 7, row A – as Sheehan attended an “alternative state of the union” press conference by CODEPINK, a group promoting the end of the Iraq war.

Isn’t that special?

Michelle Malkin blogs about what some of the more fanatical hate-Bushr’s around the country will be doing tonight to protest Bush’s speech.

Macsmind has a post up with his thoughts on the state of the Democratic party.

Update 10:37 PM: Cindy Sheehan was arrested and removed from the House galley prior to the President’s speech (see photos here). My question is this: why did Rep. Lynn Woolsey, who I would assume knows about all the stunts that Ms. Sheehan and her ‘supporters’ have pulled in the past, invite her in the first place? If you’re in Rep. Woolsey’s district and would like to voice your opinion on her invitation of Cindy Sheehan to the SOTU, click here. We expect silly antics from radical anti-war types like Cindy Sheehan, but not Representatives of the US House. Shame on you, Rep. Woolsey.

Sould be fun to watch Cindy’s reaction to GW’s speech. :) You know the cameras will be on her and Hillary more than they will be on the President. I wonder if anyone is going to time the face time of each individual. – Lorica

I hope Bush is thinking about how to respond to Cindy shouting, “You killed my son”, “why won’t you meet with me”.

Video footage will be shown for days about the mean secret service guys dragging her off as she goes limp and Bush saying some smart aleck remark.

I think I agree with Hugh Hewitt that Bush should adress Cindy being in the audience as a preemptive strike by saying, “We honor Casey Sheehan’s son”, “and we feel for what Cindy must be going through in her time of greiving” or some other words to that effect that a master speech writer could do.

    3. Lorica says:

Bak that certainly would take alot of the wind out of her sails. Of course GW would have to come out from behind the podium and give her a standing ovation. Let them clap for a few mins, and watch how she melts. We will see, no one in DC plays Texas hold’em as well as GW – Lorica

Michelle Malkin made a comment wondering if Cindy Sheehan would be wearing a pink nightgown in honor of her Code Pink nutcases.

Gadzooks, there’s an image I could have lived without. :((

    5. Lorica says:

Oppps well I guess she has already been escorted out, as she was trying to unfurl a banner. Ohhh Well guess I won’t get to see the agony of defeat on her face after all. – Lorica

    6. Gahrie says:

Sheehan has been removed from the gallery and “detained” by Capitol police. Apparently she tried to unfurl a banner.

    7. Pam says:

l-) I loved the way Charlie Gibson said that the D.C. police indicated that she would be detained for an hour or so and then they would probably let her go…=))

      Federal courts have approved

I have briefed the appropriate people in Congress

We will not sit back and wait again!

Turns out she was wearing a t-shirt. That gets you arrested near the president these days.

    10. J Rob says:

The SOTU is given before a joint SESSION of congress. Anybody there is obliged to observe the rules of congress as set by congress. Guests are aware of this. This is yet another in a list of Cindy getting herself arrested stunts. She knew what she was doing, she knew what would happen and she knew that it would get her fan club to make comments like that.

    11. benning says:

      A T-shirt. Sheehan certainly remains a class-act. Truly a “10″ on the Yech Factor.

      Yech!

    12. Pam says:

andrew- It was because of people like Casey Sheehan, and not his mother, that people are afforded the right to protest in this country. But with every protest, there are rules that must be followed. It is people like her that think that they are accomplishing something so great for this country, when in actuallity, they are just exercising a right, which you and I do everyday of our lives.

As a side note, I have been following AP stories about Cindy. In every story about her for the past year, they have mentioned her son by name and the fact that he died in Iraq……today was the first day that they omitted his name. It looks like Cindy stands alone.

    13. Jim M says:

The Crawford Crackpot should have followed the rules of Congress and she would have gotten more face time than the President on the alphabet channels. But she got what she wanted when she was arrested by the Capitol Police and she had the help of a nutcase of a Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey.

    14. andrew says:

“andrew- It was because of people like Casey Sheehan, and not his mother, that people are afforded the right to protest in this country.”

Soldiers dying in iraq aren’t really protecting our right to wear t-shirts in the capitol. They’re doing a whole lot of other things, but not that.

    15. Pam says:

Dear Andrew- please take the time to re-read what I said before responding…

I will take it a step further and say that many soldiers and civilians died for her right to protest…

Protesting does not give you the right to break the rules.

I will take it a step further and say I have no sympathy left for the woman.

    16. andrew says:

“I will take it a step further and say that many soldiers and civilians died for her right to protest”

Exactly why she should be arrested for a t-shirt. Because her son died for her to be able to wear t-shirts. Makes a whole lot of sense.

    17. Pam says:

And as with anything Andrew, there are rules that must be followed by all protesters. Cindy broke the law and was removed. Just as another Representatives wife was removed last night for wearing a pro-military tee shirt. Her story didn’t quite make the same splash in the news though did it..

    18. andrew says:

“And as with anything Andrew, there are rules that must be followed by all protesters. Cindy broke the law and was removed. Just as another Representatives wife was removed last night for wearing a pro-military tee shirt.”

One was arrested. One was ejected. Can you guess which is which?

    19. sanity says:

She was warned about no protesting inside the Capitol building. She wore the t-shirt as an anti-war activist, using it as a slogan/propaganda for her side of the issue. The same would have happened if a pro-war person ignored what the police told them and tried to do the same. She broke the law.

This has been a law before President Bush was even in office.

    20. The voice of sanity speaks – literally :)

    21. Baklava says:

      We’ve been sanitized.

      Ok that’s old now. :-"
