You should have tested in Iowa then. We had LOTS of snow. In one January we had snowfall on the weekends that measured in excess of 8 inches.

Nothing like going to lunch on a Friday and can’t get back to work because EVERYTHING is snowed in, including the Police.

LOL Steve – cushioned dining chairs, rule I’ve learned the value of a soft chair after sitting on one too many a church pew for over an hour without the benefit of cushion. I mean, there IS some natural, ahem, cushion there, but still ….

I can’t imagine having cushions on dining chairs. Worrying about them would distract attetnion from more serious things, like eating. My dining chairs have plain wood seats.

And the floor is tiled with a drain in the center. There are sprinkler heads in the ceiling for easy cleanup.

Charlotte, NC got about five minutes of snow today … I enjoyed it while it lasted It was nice to see what snow looks like falling in my back yard. I have atrium doors in the back, so it was pretty to watch for the five minute it came down

Bach: on the cushions, I did get a three year service agreement on the chairs that they would replace the cushions if necessary

Ummm…I got mine last weekend, and more is predicted for late this week. So, enjoy it East Coasters.

Ummm…ST, does the cushion color mean you’ll not be having spaghetti in the DR? My mottled cushion colors mean I can slop to my bib’s content and still not see stains. Good luck!

Just shovel a few piles that are high enough to make it worthwhile and FIRE THAT SUCKER UP!!! You know you want to. Just to Ops Check it.

I’m about a half hour outside DC in Maryland. We got about six or seven inches. Shoveled my driveway out in about 90 minutes, excluding breaks.

Debating talking a run to Staples and picking up a new printer. My Compaq IJ700 is about on its last legs.

It turned out that the snow was deeper than it looked: the Official Measurement (taken on the hood of my F-150, but confirmed in other places) was 2Â½ inches. Normally I’d just shovel that little an amount, but, since the new snowblower hadn’t actually been used, I figured that I had to use it, or risk offending my lovely bride. It was almost too much for the little bit of snow we had.

You can’t predict snow that well. I remember back in the early 80′s, I was working on a weapon system where we were testing a radar mapping system. We were testing around Huntsville, AL, and rushed to finish up as we had to test in snow, and had planned on moving up to NY to test. Well, that year, after we moved the entire test effort up, aircraft, ground stations, data reduction vans, what happened? We had about 1-2 inches of snow max in NY, and about 7 inches in Huntsville. Go figure.

I already told everybody that it wouldn’t be much of a much for me. The forecast map had us in the six to ten inch range, but I knew we’d be nowhere close to that.

Why? Because my darling bride bought a snowblower for my Christmas present, that’s why! Here we are, in the Poconos, situated between three ski resorts, and we hadn’t gotten more than a dusting since December 10th. The only explanation was the presence of the snowblower!

With the predicted storm, my logic was firm: if I went out and filled the gas can, there’d be no significant snow; if I left the gas can empty, we’d get buried!

Well, I filled the gas can, and started the machine up, to make sure it would run. At first, it just wouldn’t start, but, being a mechanical genius, I checked the spark plug, and saw that the gap was set too wide. I narrowed the gap, reinstalled the spark plug, and she fired right up.

The result? Looking out my window, there’s about an inch, inch and a half tops, almost not enough to make using the snowblower worthwhile.

From Long Island, NY:

Yes, we’re pretty much socked in; about 7 inches of snow have fallen in my area so far, and the winds are gusting to about 40 mph. According to the reports, there’s at least as much more storm and snow to come. Given the prevalence of overhead power and cable lines here, widespread losses of power and connectivity are likely, so I might be offline for a while.

All my best to you, Sister, and to all those enjoying better weather in warmer climes. I envy you a little just now. No doubt I’ll envy you even more when I bend my back to the task of clearing my 1500 square foot driveway. But “this, too, shall pass away.” Maybe y’all can join us for a barbecue when the weather down there turns muggy and buggy!
