Iraq the Model has all the latest on the bomb attack in Samarra on the famous golden dome at the al-Askari shrine. There have been numerous reprisal attacks on Sunni mosques in response to the dome attack.

Make sure to heck out Michelle Malkin’s post on this – specifically: the comments she cites from MM reader James G.

Stay tuned to ITM for any new developments.

AM Update: Mohammed at ITM has the latest. The AP is reporting that fears of a civil war may be being realized.

Looks like a CIA operation. Peace

    2. PCD says:

steve, you are blind. Who benefits from this? IRAN! You don’t think Iran could arrange operatives to blow up the shrine when no one was there to start a civil war?

    3. solitaire says:

Yes, they are having a civil war. It’s been escalating, and now it’s really hard to ignore. I’m sure, though, if we work really hard on it, we can ignore it for a few more weeks. However, it doesn’t hurt to look at the present situation with an analytical eye, does it?
Our military is now literally STUCK in a country in civil war between many factions most of whom hate our presence there and want us out of the country. The Shia, the majority of the newly elected Iraqi government, expect to be handed many of our weapons and bases when we leave, so they want us out asap, they have a civil war to attend. The Sunni want us out because they have a civil war to attend and they don’t want us helping anybody but them, they certainly don’t want to be stopped in their bid to regain power. The Kurds will soon have their own country once the civil war starts between the Shia and the Sunni. Not much skin off their noses. They have experience in sealing their borders. They will end up with several large oil fields. The Baath party hates us ’cause we spoiled their Saddam regime and removed them from power. Killing our soldiers is just one of their goals. The outsider terrorists that has been pouring into Iraq, called ‘Islamist radicals’, are attacking our soldiers almost exclusively. That will certainly escalate as we find enemies at almost every turn.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we are nearing the apex of King George’s “war”. Prepare to be royally screwed.

What is your desire/want on this issue?

    5. steve says:

At this time the military forces of the United States, are unable to deploy from their bases in Iraq. The reason: It is too dangerous to operate. Isn’t it time to bring all of our troops home? Peace

    6. sanity says:

      Really?

I would appreciate a link to your assertions.

The military seem to have a different view from yours:

The US military rejected the idea of a brewing civil war in
Iraq, saying the number of confirmed major attacks on mosques across the country were only seven.

Major General Rick Lynch, spokesman for the coalition forces in Iraq, said the military had recorded attacks on seven Sunni mosques since the bombing of the revered Shiite shrine in Samarra on Wednesday.

“As of now seven attacks on mosques across Iraq have taken place that resulted in damage to mosques, two Sunni imams (prayer leaders) and one Sunni sheikh were murdered,” Lynch told reporters, playing down the sectarian strife.

“Some drive-by shootings against mosques have been reported … that’s where we are. So we are not seeing civil war igniting in Iraq. We are not seeing 77, 80, 100 mosques damaged in Iraq. We are not seeing death on the streets.”

    7. Baklava says:

Whew. I was ALMOST convinced by Steve. Thanks for saving us me.:o

    8. Baklava says:

Sorry to post twice but in Sanity’s link was the following quote by Lynch, ““We are seeing a confident Iraqi government using capable security forces to calm the storm that was inflammated by a horrendous terrorist attack yesterday against the golden mosque,”

Wouldn’t it be great news to understand a month from now that Iraq made it through this time period without the dire predictions of the left coming true?

    9. sanity says:

Does this kind of reporting remind you of some other quick draw without facts reporting?

      Katrina comes to mind…..

In fact, didn’t people say the bad reporting from Katrina (lies) increased the problems because people listened to those lies and thought it was too dangerous to go in at that time?

This is obvious to anyone who cares to look at how these terrorists are operating, that Iran and Syria are trying to start a civil war in Iraq.

Iraqs own insurgents while not liking the US military has finally seen who the real enemy is and have been killing terrorists.

    10. Baklava says:

Yes it does Sanity. Yes it does. Maybe it has something to do with this little tidbit:

A survey by the Pew Research Center shows that conservatives are happier than liberals — in all income groups. While 34 percent of all Americans call themselves “very happy,” only 28 percent of liberal Democrats (and 31 percent of moderate or conservative Democrats) do, compared to 47 percent of conservative Republicans. This finding is niftily self-reinforcing: It depresses liberals.

Election results do not explain this happiness gap. Republicans have been happier than Democrats every year since the survey began in 1972.

Whatever the problem, I find it odd that everything has to be a crisis and a quagmire and a broken law, etc.

    11. steve says:

In order to be a conservative that part of the brain that allows for advanced analytical reasoning is less active then in Liberals. This difference allows the Left to see clearly the end result of stupid decisions. Like invading Iraq and the civil war that follows. Peace

    12. sanity says:

Steve your stateent is so full BS I had to go grab boots before reading it.

It is the Right that usually research, that go out of thier way to show links to what they say, while you have people like you that come in here with one liners and no proof, nothing ot back it up.

Left and brains are not something I would breathe together in the same sentence.

    13. Lorica says:

Steve don’t confuse analytical reasoning for daydreaming fantasy. The two are extremely different and you are wasting your time thinking that you are analytical in any fashion. Invading Iraq should of been done under the Clinton Administration, since he didn’t have the onions to do it, GW had too. But then the well reasoned Clinton did go into Somalia with no heavy equipment. Steve how did you survive your teen years with such illogical conclusions?? – Lorica

What is your desire/want on this issue?

Want? Roll back time maybe? A second chance? Divine intervention? What can be done? Spilt milk.

Desire? What does anybody desire? Please don’t mistake me for someone who has hope for this war, or our role in it. What does anybody’s opinion matter anyway? Me? I’m just a voice in a electonic wilderness wondering what the heck happened to us.

    15. Baklava says:

solitaire wrote, “Want? Roll back time maybe? A second chance? Divine intervention? What can be done? Spilt milk.

My point made exactly. I have said this time and time again with every liberal. You simply disagreed with the decision to go to war in Iraq. That decision has LONG been made and can not be reversed. I have many times stated what do we do from here? And it seems to me that your attitude is lousy not so good.

What comes across to me from your statement (and it’s why I asked what is your want/desire) is that you are almost gleeful for your party that a civil war might be breaking out. But thankfully (as is tyhe usual case), it looks like the media may have overstated the case.

Now look at what I just wrote. What comes across from my statement (you can ask what my desire/want is) is that I would hate to see Iraq throw away their oportunity after having been freed from oppression. You see how that works my friend?

And it has NOTHING to do with individuals like Bush

    16. solitaire says:

Well, yes, Baklava, I disagreed with the decision to go to war in the first place. Many were. Now that we’re there, you want me to tell you the solution to the problem, knowing full well that the horse is out of the barn, the place is on fire, and I don’t have a bucket. I never claimed to have a bucket. You don’t like my attitude? I don’t like your leadership. That’s what got us here, and I have no intention of taking the blame for it sir.

    17. Baklava says:

solitaire wrote, “the place is on fire, and I don’t have a bucket.

The place isn’t on fire and you do have a bucket.

There are certainly some bullies in the playground but you have your words. It is my belief that it certainly doesn’t help the situation to make the enemy more emboldened and “feel” they are on the verge of success of dismantling our progress. It is in Iraq AND America’s interest for success. It is in Democrat and Republican’s interest in success. I believe every liberal amateur and rank and file should rise to the occassion and make the dominant/legacy press feel ashamed at their journalism tactics. It isn’t possible for conservatives to do so. Turn on the misinformers and make them be MORE responsive. In case after case (Katrina, Iraq, Cheney, economics) the press falls down on the job and puts forth an agenda versus the truth.

Solitaire wrote, “You don’t like my attitude? I don’t like your leadership.

My leadership? It is this country’s leadership. You can’t change it. One of life’s lessons is that you can’t control/change other people. You can only look at your own words and actions and adjust them accordingly. In the movie “Changing Lanes”, Ben Afleck and Samuel Jackson learn this lesson with striking results. I try to put this in action every day. I’m not perfect and have much to learn in life. But I do think it is useful for me to point out this solid lesson of life that everyone could improve on/with.

solitaire wrote, “and I have no intention of taking the blame for it sir

Nobody nobody nobody is asking you to take the blame for anything. I just wish for your sake that you would take some time to look at other viewpoints with an open heart and attitude. It is heartwarming to see that the dominant/legacy press does not control information anymore and peole are stepping up to the plate and reporting what is really going on in Iraq. Now it is up to you to choose who you want to believe and what you can do to improve the chances of our future

    18. solitaire says:

“Now it is up to you to choose who you want to believe and what you can do to improve the chances of our future “.

I don’t live in a make believe world, Baklava. Choose who I want to believe? You sound like we can choose alternate realities. You think words can make lemonade out of feces? Well, go ahead and spin the fact of Iraq if you want but it’s not going to change things. They are what they are.
“Embolden the enemy” is the always the cry that tries to stifle dissent. But nobody can stop people from voicing dissent in this country forever, you may have noticed. Not even the neo-cons.
So, like you say, I’m taking a look at my own words and actions, I will be saying what I believe to be true, not just what I wish was true and this is the bottom line: I don’t have one iota of hope for a positive outcome in Iraq as long as we are there. And there is where we are, and it looks like we are stuck there too. There is only one way out, that’s OUT. If they start very soon, they could have us out in a year. But, I also don’t have one iota of hope that the current administration will do that, so we’re back to stuck. I will not sing the praises of the war simply because it’s hopeless, like the poor men singing hymns on the Titanic as it sank. Go ahead if you must. I will continue to call for evacuation to the lifeboats. This ship IS sinking.

    19. steve says:

solitaire is correct. The War Party has gotten the American people stuck in an unwinable war. And the Democrats allowed them to do it. All politicians should be voted out of office in November unless they repent and begin to make Peace with the people of the world. Peace

    20. PCD says:

Steve, do you walk around with a white flag all the time? You and solitaire are so defeatist and working for the defeat of the US. Also, you are working for the deaths of our troops and US citizens. NIIIICCCCCCEEEEE!

    21. solitaire says:

pcd YOU are working for the downfall of the U.S. in order to support a warped arrogant personality that you admire.
YOU are waving the flag of war so fast and hard that you cannot see three feet ahead of you. If you don’t like defeat, neither do we. But it is where we are.
Do you suggest we do as that fool Iraqi PR guy did when we entered Baghdad and clownishly claim that things are different than what is perfectly obvious?
Ignoring reality is how we got into this mess. I’m tired of hearing you tell me what I should say. Control your own mouth, I’ll take care of mine.

    22. PCD says:

solitaire, I believe the TROOPS THAT HAVE COME BACK FROM IRAQ VS. “The Clinton News Network”. I believe your head is stuck in your defeatist/pacifist dogma so much you can’t accept anything else as true.

    23. Mwalimu Daudi says:

Looks like no civil war in Iraq this time around, solitaire. Better luck next time!

    24. - You’d probably do pretty well on the odds on end of the betting tables in Vegas if you went with, “40 times the Liberals declare failure in Iraq”, before it actually ends in a success. I’m keeping my own count, as we see each desperate final act of extreme asocial calamities inacted by the al Qaedists, and the perfectly predictable glee of the asshat brigade. I think very possibly at this point it would be nearly impossible to give me a convincing reason to ever vote for a Democrat for any reason ever again. Theres simply a limit to open mindedness….

BTW – If LurchKerry calls tell him its ok. We found the form 180 and Ter-ray-sa’s ten straup flog in an abandoned Coke dispensing machine behind a 7/11 in Miami….
