Bush is digging a very large hole with the electorate for both himself and his party, by pushing this, and trying to deflect whats really got peoples shorts in a bunch. I'll never again believe this adminsitration is as serious about homeland defense as trying to hang on to every shred of the hispanic vote, and the Dems are no better, doing exactly the same in Congress. Reid may be shouting "base pandering", but behind the scenes the Dems are more than happy to stall meaningful immigration and border control reform for exactly the same reasons. - I noticed Bush appeared before an interest specific group and didn't take any questions this morning, anticipating the type of things he would be asked, the same as Tony had to deal with at this mornings gaggle. "When are you going to do something about the "real" problems that Americans care the most about"? They better start listening or the hispanic vote isn't going to matter. - Bang **== - This was a poorly thought out manuever. Until he resolves the immigration issue, the rest of his issues are just politics. There are plenty of other important issues too! Iran might get the bomb, social security is in it's death-throws, government is too big and growing, terrorists want to end us, and on and on. But no, let's ignore all of this (ignore. you heard me.) and worry about flag burning and gay marriage. I'm against both, but not even close to the amount I'm against the <em>real</em> problems.
