I saw part of this on Fox News, and it caught me a completely off guard. Normally, Wexler is an ordinary, plain-Jane run-of-the-mill demagogue devoid of humor, irony, and higher thinking capabilities. He is the sort of guy you bring in when you need to extort the crowds to become suicide bombers. To see him cracking jokes – even grim ones – was almost a welcome sight.

But this is an age where uber-ultrasensitivity is the coin of the political realm. Nowadays, if you insult certain left-wing groups such as homosexuals, abortionists, or anti-war protesters – or even fail to genuflect sufficiently towards them – you become the target of saturation-bombing character assassination campaigns.

And that’s just the MSM. The actual leftist groups involved can be a bit more testy.

So, with this political paradigm in mind, I profess myself shocked – shocked! to hear Rep. Wexler make such insensitive jokes. Bring out the tar and feathers, along with the rail, the horsewhip, and the piano wire!
