When I blogged earlier this week about the Allen campaign releasing selected excerpts of books written by Jim Webb, I made clear that I didn’t think the book excerpts were a big deal. Were they sexually bizarre? Yes. But were excerpts of fictional books relevant to this race? No.
In that same post, I noted that a year ago on Countdown with Keith Olbermann, KO slammed a similar type book written by Scooter Libby. Here’s what KO said:
Artists and actors and satirists and newscasters are all quick to remind us, hey, just because I played this part and created this character, read the story, that doesn‘t mean I am them. But how much insight does a novel really give us into the psyche of the author?
[…]
Now we have beaten the hell out of Libby for this, and deservedly so. If a Democratic White House official had written this book, his head would be on a pike somewhere.
I asked in my post: “Will Keith provide the same attention to the excerpts from Webb’s books?”
The answer: No. KO used a few minutes of his broadcast time to defend Jim Webb’s books, carefully noting they were fiction. Read Olbermann Watch for a recap of KO’s Friday show, in which he did everything he could to defend Webb’s writings, a stark contrast to how he not only treated Scooter Libby’s fictional book, but the fictional book Bill O’Reilly wrote as well. The show transcript at KO’s site has not been posted yet, otherwise I would have linked to it as well.
Memo to Keith: Consistency can do wonders for your credibility, pal.

Oddly enough, KO seems to have missed Barbara Boxer’s bodice ripping political thriller altogether.
A San Diego based Talk show host did some dramatic readings when it first came out.
Just eeuuww.
keith olbermann needs to go away …. he makes me so sick and I still want to know how he gets so much credibility, a fired sportcaster doing political commentary and a moonbat as well, yuk…..
Butt
stoo: Did you notice this in your link, as well?

It’s almost enough to make ya thnk they were more interested in the ideology of the authors than the actual stories, ain’t it?
Nah, that can’t be it.
Oddly enough, KO seems to have missed Barbara Boxer’s bodice ripping political thriller altogether.
Barbara Boxer … bodice ripping … MY EYES!! MY EYES!!
Thank for nothing! I’ll never get that image out of my mind!

Here ya go, MD — wash out your mind with this video clip.
Olbermann couldn’t care less about consistency, fairness, accuracy or even truth. Olbermann’s chief objective is to do anything in his power to make as many conservatives look bad on his show. It doesn’t matter if he has to lie, obfuscate, fabricate or whatever. He is more than willing if he thinks it will make conservatives look bad. As a result, he has become an absolute disgrace and shameful example of yellow journalism.
Simply another example of lib double standards. Not at all surprised. I doubt if the three people who watch him are surprised, either.
But I have to say, that I never saw the need for such graphic depictions in either books or films, except for the obvious hope for boosted sales. It’s like cussing in stand-up comedy. Apparently there’s no faith in one’s creative abilities if one must fall back on sex and those who do so are quite deserving of derision no matter their party affiliations. I like naked women as much as the next guy, but if I must have it, that’s what porn is for. Some like to think it’s adult and sophisticated to pepper their films or books with such things, but they’re anything but. Even in the best movie, I feel cheated of some of my time and a piece of the ticket price if I have to sit through a sex scene, despite how attractive the actress might be. As to the actors or actresses themselves, they are every bit a whore and the producer and/or directors every bit a pornographer, if they think such actions make them more “important” or “progressive” in their work. OK, I’m done. I can’t see the Dallas-Carolina game very well from atop this soap-box.
