ATLANTA – Two teenage brothers each were sentenced to 10 years in prison for torturing a puppy by cooking it in an oven.
Joshua Moulder, 17, and Justin, 19, pleaded guilty in January to charges including burglary, criminal damage to property, terroristic threats and cruelty to children.
The brothers brought neighborhood children to see the dead puppy, then threatened to kill them if they reported it, prosecutors said.
Police said they found the dead mixed-breed puppy inside an oven at an apartment community center Aug. 21. Scratch marks were found inside the oven, indicating the puppy had been alive when it was placed inside, prosecutors said.
A necropsy on the 3-month-old dog found its paws and snout had been duct taped and it had been doused with paint before being placed in the oven, prosecutors said.
Reminds me of this sickening story I read a few years ago:
LIBERTY, Missouri (AP) — A man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly burning a kitten on a barbecue grill as several other people stood around and watched in amusement.
A witness pulled the scorched, 7-week-old tabby from the hot coals, but it was severely injured and had to be put to death, police said.
“They kept saying, `Meow, meow,’ and they were poking at it with a stick,” said Sherry Scott, who burned her hand grabbing the kitten.
Charles C. Benoit, 24, was charged with animal abuse, punishable by up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. He was jailed on $10,000 bail.
Jim Roberts, spokesman for the Clay County prosecutor’s office, said he does not expect anyone else to be charged, because no witnesses could identify the others.
Scott said that on Friday night, she saw 10 or 12 people at the barbecue grill in the courtyard of the apartment complex where she lives. Scott said she asked what they were cooking, and they said it was a cat. She said the group taunted her, daring her to rescue the cat.
She said the group scattered when she threatened to call police. She said she pulled the kitten from where it had been shoved into the coals at the back of the grill. Its tail, whiskers, fur, eyes and throat were scorched.
“I called him Lucky because I thought I got him out of there just in time,” she said.
Scott said she and other residents stayed up Friday night trying to nurse the kitten with an eye dropper of milk. But animal control officers decided that because of its respiratory injuries and inability to swallow food, it had to be destroyed.
There surely must be a special place in hell for the twisted freaks who would commit despicable acts like this to defenseless animals.
As most of you know, I have a cat myself (Muffie, pictured below) – a beauty if there ever was one. If something like this ever happened to her, I’d likely end up in jail if I ever found the person(s) responsible. I’m sure pet owners and non-pet owners alike can fully identify with that feeling.

As an emergency responder, we see this kind of thing more than you’d like to think. This is a sign of serious mental problems and statistics show that it is too often a precurser to much worse actions, including serial killings, rape, etc.
Some are even stupid enough to video what they did. The sickest part is seeing them laugh about it while it’s happening…
One of the toughest things I’ve ever had to do as a police officer is to deal with people who abuse animals, children, and women. It’s tough because you have to override every fiber of your being that wants to beat the living sh*t out of people like this.
Of course, it was simply tragic when those guys would fall down a flight of stairs……….with their hands cuffed behind them…………simply tragic.
Absolutely, anyone who would torture an animal like this is only a step away from doing it to people. You might as well put them down once they start torturing animals, it will save the people the trouble of doing it later. – Lorica
ST-Muffin looks regal, like a queen on her throne. I skipped through the details of the abuse of the animals because I hate to hear of such things. But I know it happens, and it is hard to think about. It’s a twisted up world indeed.
I was happy to see the judge give the 2 culprits ten years in jail. I think this sends the right message.
I hope with the confinement they are given counseling. We’ve discussed this somewhat in the past after a post regarding hitting an animal while driving. I love animals. Quite a bit in fact. But they are animals and not people. There is nothing wrong with feeling compassion for abused animals, but to then imagine visiting the same abuse upon the perpetrators in retaliation is improper, inappropriate and unChristian. These goons obviously have a problem and though some form of punishment may be in order, it can’t end there. Some attempt at correcting the attitude of these people is necessary. Though animal abuse may be a precursor to human abuse, it is unwise to elevate animals to the same level as humans in either our affection for them or our legal perception.
Marshall,
I’m not saying to abuse the 2 that committed the act, but a 10 year prison term as a deterent to others sends the right message. Some rehabilitation for these 2 would be nice also.
All that a dog asks for is affection, some water and some food. They give you all thier love and loyalty in return. What these 2 teenagers did was disgusting. Too often people get away with terrible acts of cruelty and receive light sentences if any at all.
I think I read this once: Unlike a man, if you pick a dog up out of the gutter, give him a purpose and make him prosperous, the dog will never bite you.
Some of you can read between the lines on this proverb and think of ex-coworkers or ex-business partners and understand the jest of it.
In addition to the cruelty to the dog, they have stolen the innocence of childhood from the children that witnessed the cruelty.
Marshall don’t try to be the voice of reason here, it is pretty obvious that I or any others were just reacting to what we just read. In all honesty, I now wish I would of never read this, and never posted. – Lorica
Marshall, G Monster, I disagree. Abuse the heck out of them then terminate them. Get a cat-o-nine tail and flog them like that scene from the Passion of the Christ. I would even play the roman guard in that. After flogging make them walk until they bleed out. Trash like that deserves no, and I mean no sympathy, mercy or second chances. All they have to offer our future is rapes and child abuse. As a spouse of a therapist, I can tell you that they are beyond help. Terminate them now or we’ll deal with worse from them later. Therapy should have been in the picture long ago. When it gets to this state, it’s too late. End them.
I just have to believe that being guilty of this kind of crime will get you beat down in prison. Prisoners usually aren’t really to tolerant of child abusers, and I have to think the same applies here. “What you in for?” “Murder” “Rape” “Drug dealing” “I tortured a puppy to death” “WTH? You gonna die punk!”
It’s sick and very sad. At least they didn’t get off with the typical wrsit-slap. Incarceration is needed. Psychiatric care would be good, too, but doing time is paramount for these creatures.
Hi, ST:
Muffin’s an absolute beauty!
I’ll wager she’s spolied rotten.
Jack.
Don’t get me wrong, folks. The story doesn’t say, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the dog didn’t belong to them. That would require some type of punishment for theft and destruction of personal property. I don’t deny the cruelty to both the pup, and more importantly, to the children who were made to witness the event. These sick and twisted creeps, however, are still people, at least biologically and legally, and it would be better of us and our society to try to bring about some understanding from them of just how sick and twisted their actions are. Sure. Confine them while its being done, but crimes against people result in ten year sentences. The same for crimes against animals lessens the value of people. Keep it in perspective. Know also, that it would suit our friends on the far left that such creeps should be penalized as if they attacked humans, as they seek to equate humankind with animals. Even the worst of us have more value than animals for the simple fact that they are human beings.
