Apologies are fine, but what would really interest me is some sort of self-examination by Mrs Sheehan concerning why she was so quick to presume guilt.

Great question. And if the answer comes out be prepared for something breathtakingly simple.

Something as quaint and unflattering as, she watches way too much television.

And, of course, to flog my own poor blog, I documented how, while most of the Usual Suspects just kept quiet, Jill from Feministe continued to defend the "accuser," saying how terrible it was that the "victim's" name and picture were now all over the internet, and on the cover of The New York Post with the title LIAR!, and then, while never using the "victim's" name, still listed, by name, the three young men who were falsely accused of rape, doing so more than once, and even claiming that we don't actually know that they're not really rapists, because it could just be that the state simply didn't have enough evidence to make a case.

While I certainly can’t speak for Mrs Sheehan individually, it seems to me that there were a whole lot of the guilt-presumers who had a real desire for the charges to have been true, an almost vested interest in the players being guilty. Trouble with that is, for them to have really wanted the players to have been guilty, they would also have really wanted for Miss Mangum to have actually been raped. What kind or warped ideology has to want a young woman to get raped to make their political case?
