Of course, prescient conservatives <em>have</em> told Sen. McCain that the media would turn on him just as soon as he was no longer of use (e.g., blasting Bush) to them. Fasten your seatbelt, Senator. The bumpy ride you've had so far is mild compared to what you'll get if your campaign makes serious inroads against any liberal's. In it, government had basically collapsed, and private enterprise provided all the services. Gated communities with their own police forces were called "burbclaves," there were Narcolumbia drug and convenience store franchises, and you if you were busted you went to either the "Klink" or the "Hoosegow," which were private jail systems. One of them was much better than the other, and if you had money you could get sent there and treated very well. Amazing how prescient cyberpunk writers often are at predicting the future.
