From what I am reading here, Olby has a point to make. The point is that these cannot possibly have been the suspects, assuming there are any suspects at all, and Olby would like us to believe that there are no suspects anywhere. To bolster this point, Olby advances evidence to suggest the six suspects are morons.

As a side note, by the way, I’m sold on that.

But to entertain Olby’s point seriously…I mean, to even begin to…you have to believe, unconditionally, that being a terrorist, and being a moron, are two mutually-exclusive career paths. Somehow, rising up out of oblivion like Venus from the ocean, we see the axiom that it’s impossible to be both at the same time. Terrorists. Morons. You have to choose which one you’re going to be.

I guess your I.Q. has to be average-or-above in order to be accepted into the terrorist-academy.

If you reject this…or even show the slightest hesitation in accepting it wholesale…Olby’s argument crumbles. Olby, I’m thinking, once backed into a corner, would admit this.

Does the same apply to our brave troops? If you’re out there in Iraq risking life and limb, facing down I.E.D.’s each and every day, have you proven your worthiness for Mensa membership? More to the point, would Olby and his followers agree we’ve got a bunch of rocket scientists out there? Or that the “morons” have been filtered out of such a class membership, perhaps through boot-camp? Is that what they’d say? I mean, surely they wouldn’t be reluctant to sign on to that…to assert otherwise, would be to accuse Olby of thinking our terrorists are smarter than the people who fight them. And I don’t think he’d have kind things to say about me if I thought such a thing about him.

But somehow, I don’t think Olby regards service in our armed forces as proof of intellectual acumen. And it is clear from his remarks, he does think such a thing has been proven, by anyone farming out their unselfish service in the cause of “real” terrorism. It’s abundantly clear. He’s shown someone to be a moron, he thinks he’s proven they aren’t terrorists.

Seems to me, on the strength of his own remarks and nothing else, he’s painted himself into an uncomfortable corner here and is left with a distasteful choice. I wonder how he’d pick if he were directly confronted with it.

Because the peaceful, innocent Muslims have been arrested, they didn’t actually do anything — so it’s easy for our friends on the left to say that nothing serious really would have happened.

The dirty little not-so-secret is that our friends on the left just plain need to have another bad terrorist attack on the United States. They need it to prove that President Bush’s policies and the Patriot Act don’t work. When something does work to prevent a terrorist attack, it has to be belittled, because evidence that our security policies do work is intolerable.

The right wingers are rightly cheering law enforcement and the anonymous clerk for bringing this plot down.  Had it taken even one life, it would be too many.

However….if the authorites do take action, and do “connect the dots” – then their first response is to pooh-pooh the efforts. This comes right before they start becoming “gravely concerned” about the civil rights abuses that the poor terrorist (sorry, alleged terrorist) surely suffered at the hands of the Bushitlerian fascists. My prediction – that will happen sometime in the next 48 hours.
