Severian has an excellent point. Talk radio is a give-and-take format. The last thing a liberal wants to hear is a differing opinion, ergo, liberal talk collapses for lack of participants.
If there were a significant public desire for “liberal talk-radio”, some liberal moneybags like Soros would be in the business in a heartbeat.

why would anyone need liberal talk radio, when they get thiere fill of from the liveral news media on tv and in the paper?

that’s the reason conservative radio, and fox news are so popular. the half of this country that has conservative viewpoints are starved to hear others with similar viewpoints, and don’t hear it in the msm.

Ultimately, talk radio is one of the most “democratic” institutions in the country. Instead of being a monolithic MSM (more so in the past then now), liberal dominated, “push” system, where the information is pushed out regardless of whether or not anyone wants to listen or hear the “message” it survives or fails dependent on whether the people want to hear and participate. Talk radio almost uniformly takes calls from the audience, this spurs the subjects that they talk about, it’s a push-pull, two way system. Unlike the major network news systems, where they decide what they want to cover and attempt to shove it down the throats of the consumers, talk radio would die if the radio hosts didn’t talk about what the audience wanted to talk about, which is the problem with liberal talk radio.

The liberal talk radio “experiments” were failures because they adopted the same, elitist attitude of “we know better what you should hear.” Unlike Err Amerika, conservative talk radio doesn’t have to pay stations to broadcast them or steal money from inner city youth clubs to survive, what they offer is desired enough to have the stations pay them not the other way around.

Talk radio exists because of the liberal monopoly over the large legacy media outlets, broadcast and print. It arose and found a ready, willing market due to people’s frustrations with the existing media outlets, and if it ever stopped it’s quid pro quo of responding to and discussing what people want to discuss, it will die.

As the most arguably democratic and egalitarian of formats, it naturally runs against the grain of the “we know best what’s good for you” liberals.

So, in their minds, “local and community needs” are only served if talk radio trends left.

Typical leftists….all for free speech, as long as you agree with them. Everything else must be silenced.

By the way, if you want to see how the left discusses a topic and have a few minutes to waste, take a peek at the comments to that TP post. The resident “progressives” there can’t seem to finish a thought without profanity or advocating total government control of everything. It’ll make you REALLY grateful for the civil exchanges you find here.
