One of the saddest things about being a qualified teacher in what was once considered tainted and since been downgraded to rotten is, as Severian and others who posted over the years mentioned, the unions. This cult like group of strong armed deviants could solve a lot of current problematic issues with teachers in general, simply by their non-existence.

It's quite telling that if one fails to qualify in college at their desired major, they can always fall back on the teaching and failing to qualify there, then leads to *journalism and reporting*.

European settlers killed Native Americans with blankets infected with smallpox, they found out.

Pretty good trick, considering the germ theory wasn't widely accepted until the end of the 19th century, but then why let a little thing like facts interfere with the demonization of the country and white Europeans. 8-|

While folding paper cranes in the classroom, my children were told that a hundred thousand people died when the atomic bomb was dropped on Japan...

And of course no mention of the hundreds and hundreds of thousands killed and subjected to untold horrors in things like the Bataan Death March and the Rape of Manchuria. That wouldn't make the US look bad.

You've hit the nail on the head, somehow, while we weren't looking, liberals got ahold of education and set the curriculum on its head. They took to heart the old saying that the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. Not to denigrate the good teachers out there, but there are far to many ideologically leftist/Marxist teachers out there who view their reason for existence to indoctrinate rather than teach, and there are also far to many poorly educated and just plain stupid and incompetent teachers who can't be fired due to the union. One thing I read pointed out that one of the reasons math instruction has been dumbed down so much is not that the students can't learn, it's that the math teachers can't understand the subject or teach it themselves. All too true unfortunately.

Not only in the areas of history and what used to be called civics, but in math and science, the things taught and the way they are taught are having seriously deleterious effects on the entire nation. Our schools are producing an army of easily led sheep that are not taught to think for themselves.

The only things I find as a bright spot in today's youth are the fine young men and women I see in the military. They display a combination of professionalism and competence that makes me thing not all of the youth of America are lost, unfortunately though they are in the minority. Somehow they seemed to slip between the cracks of the liberal education system.

This is a real problem. What did I do? I dedicated four years of my life and a significant part of my savings to writing a book - a letter to my children, if you will - that teaches them the proper lessons of life, how to be good Americans, and arms them with information to resist the siren call of the left.

Our schools, the motion picture industry, and the media are partly to blame for this problem. I was appalled at how some teachers presented American history to my own children. My son and daughter learned that Thomas Jefferson had slaves - before they learned that he wrote the document articulating our rights and duties as free people. European settlers killed Native Americans with blankets infected with smallpox, they found out. That allegation upstaged the stories of courage, perseverance, and curiosity that defined the pioneers. While folding paper cranes in the classroom, my children were told that a hundred thousand people died when the atomic bomb was dropped on Japan - but they were not made to understand the moral context of World War II in which the atomic bomb story fit. My children were instructed to equate illegal aliens with legal immigrants, devaluing the story of their own ancestors who came to America through Ellis Island. And, classroom discussions always seemed to cast businessmen as villains, instead of as people to be emulated.

We must re-dedicate ourselves to teaching our children about good and evil, right and wrong, war and peace, what it means to be an American, honor and discipline, success and achievement, courage and destiny, marriage and family, God and purpose.

The way it used to be.

New York Times/CBS News/MTV poll

Ok enough said. Talk about a bunch of liars. Who can believe anything out of their mouths???

they retain a belief that their votes can make a difference, the poll found.

But yet only 25% or so actually do vote. If all the leftie young people that could have voted, actually did vote, we would be singing "Hail to the Chief" to John "I have been to Vietnam" Kerry. More /YAWN being forced down our throats as news. Even P. Diddy said he was highly disappointed in how few young people voted in 2004....a.k.a. didn't vote for John Kerry.

54 percent
With a plus or minus of 3 percent this is such an unimportant percentage. 2 years from now these people are going to come out of college making 100K per year thinking to themselves, I don't want Hitlery to steal more of my money.

=))

Republicans have dominated Washington
Shouldn't this read "Occupied" Washington???

This is just trash being reported as news. The media should be patting themselves on the back, and I pray that the Dems get all puffed up with their certainty that they are going to win 2008. It was said a long time before me, but Pride goeth before a fall, in this situation let's hope. - Lorica

Considering how the republicans are handling themselves at the moment, even I, a republican for decades am hard put to admit it these days, so this poll is no surprise. That said, these guys represent the lowest turnout of any electoral group, have always tended liberal so it's old news, and also old news - significant portions of them change allegiances when they become gainfully employed and start paying taxes.

The brainwashing of the education system has been thus far ineffective at abolishing an individual's self-interest, so their new tactic is to dumb down education and create an ignorant electorate. The problem they haven't solved is that an ignorant electorate is also lazy and doesn't turn out to vote.

One of my faves is:

A conservative is a liberal who's just been mugged, and a civil libertarian is a conservative who's under investigation. :d

Thanks for the link, ST. Yes, after going through the American educational system, I'm surprised the numbers aren't more lopsided.

Hard to believe this is considered newsworthy, though I doubt were the results reversed, we'd be hearing about it.
