I wasn’t even going to write about this story, because I think it’s a personal matter, but I coldn’t resist after reading one liberal blogger’s response to the news of the arrest of Al Gore’s son for speeding at 100 MPH and alleged possession of marijuana and several controlled substances for which he does not have a prescription for:
The good news is that Al Gore III at least learned something from his father. He was picked up for drug posession driving a hybrid Toyota Prius. He may have been endangering himself and other drivers on the road, but at least he was doing his bit for the environment.
Ian Schwartz, who linked up to the “Liberal Values” blog post, had the perfect response:
In other words, he may have killed a family of four driving home from a vacation — but it’s okay, at least he’s not killing the environment. Glad to know that these are “liberal values.”
How did the Today show tackle the news of Gore III’s arrest? By highlighting the lows of GOP kids – and praising Chelsea Clinton, ignoring some of her past, shall we say, lapses in judgement.
And for any lefty out there thinking of jumping me for unfairly attacking Al Gore, please read this post carefully – I’m not ‘attacking’ the Goracle (I save that for the numerous global warming threads I start here), but instead chuckling at the response to his son’s arrest by some in the leftosphere and the media. If you want to get uptight about someone ‘attacking’ Gore, perhaps then you should watch this video of MSNBC’s John Ridley going off on Gore for doing press interviews about Live Earth while his son was in California being hauled up on the charges stemming from his arrest. Ridley’s comment: “Instead of trying to throw a hug around the world, why not throw a hug around your kid?”
Transcript here.
Ridley, BTW, describes himself as someone who is on the “center left.” Plus he’s also black, which should provide him with the “Absolute Moral Authority” cover he needs to get away with a comment a conservative never would have.

Don’t you love these concerts that try to save the enviromnent. Yeah I’m going to listen to Madonna who flies in private jets, has many houses andf drives big cars….otr Al Bore who lives ina 10000 square foot house, also takes private jets and contributes to his very own carbon neutral company….yeah right.. I’m going to burn as mcuh damm fuel as I possibly can and let the world fry
Was this the same son of Al Gore that was given a speeding ticket in Duck, NC a few years ago?
Faced with those two Gorapologists, Ridley made a great point: if this were an inner city dad going off to a ballgame and ignoring his family instead of a multimillionaire snake-oil salesman, everyone would criticize him instead of making excuses.
That said, I don’t know that the Goracle’s doing anything wrong here. The son is an adult. Or at least, he’s over 21, even if he seems to be registering low on the maturity meter. It’s not Goracle’s responsibility anymore.
As for the Today hit piece, who’s surprised? Any way that slimy crew can twist a story – any story – into an attach on the President, they’ll do it.
As for praising Chelsea Clinton, there’s an interesting contrast. If I recall correctly, both of the Bush twins are now involved in serving others – one, I believe, works with UNICEF and the other with AIDS patients in Africa. Chelsea, on the other hand, has a big-money job with a hedge fund run by one of the Clinton’s major campaign donors. Use your imagination here, and think of how the MSM would spin it if it were the other way around.
You know? I just want the guy to get and stay sober before he hurts or kills some innocents or himself.
I’m with GWR on this. The boy is not a boy any longer. He’s an adult and as such needs to suffer the consequences of his own actions. The fact that his dad is a renowned moron of epic proportion may be what makes Goretree wish for an escape through his self-medication but his best chances at leading a good life while time is on his side may/will require some serious intent and actions to follow.
The apologist mode from the blathering idjuts to Ridley’s left are precisely what’s wrong with being a leftard. “It was only a little bit’o weed and a few pills…..”(paraphrased) is hardly what’s at stake or why. It’s not even the getting *caught* part that ought to be focused on. They are w/o a clue bat and will never reach first base unless they either get walked or hit.
The inanity of those who clamor about the *well johnny did it first/too* crews, are as close as one would ever hope to get to being a hypocrite. What bearing does one mans flaws have on the abilities of another or the inverse?
Goretree needs some help and the Goracle aint up to it, never was. That much seems obvious, judging by the public record of the Goracle’s alien techno spirit and discernment limitations.
I agree with the black dude here guys. He at least coulda gone home and taped his lousy appearences at the save the earth debackle deal, he just wants his face out there so the doped up hippies can cheer him on in case he wants to run for Prez again, God help us all if he does.
What kind of mileage does a Prius get at 100 m.p.h.? Toyota must be thrilled with this story, and I am not kidding! A Prius can go 100 m.p.h.!
