- This Utah mine disaster has been a 24 carat "CF" from the very first day, and the Governor has not been out front on things either. Murray, the mine owner, should have never been allowed to lead the rescue operations. From the first day he showed where his interests are, with his elaborate hour long speeches, repeating over and over that the problems were due to seismic "events". everyone familiar with mining operations knows this is CYA speak, to try to limit the insurance liabilities. They have basically gutted that mountain for thousands of feet under the the supporting sediments. It's like a giant piece of swiss cheese. Whats happening is all the digging has forced a massive redistribution of compressive forces throughout the area of the mined out portions, and the earth keeps shifing from that, not from earth quakes, but the other way around.

- At some point these operations became just too perilous to continue. If you were the families of these miners, would you want the mine owners deciding when it was time to shit things down, particularly when they know theres still a laarge amount of coal left in the dig. I sure as hell wouldn't. the problem is, the Mine Safety people seem to be no better than the owners in calling the operations off in a timely manner. I suspect its the usual case of Bueruecrats not willing to put their butts on the line because there are so many jobs and so much money at stake.

- Now, three deaths, and possibly more, later, the Governor suddenly gets tough, by which I mean he starts talking tough. We all know how far that goes sometimes.

- Your heart has to go out to the faamilies. Their loss is unimaginable, but for that reason alone the people intimately envolved in the mine operations are overwrought and hardly in a position to think things through with a cool head. Putting the owner, with all the axes he would just naturally have to grind, is lumping more problems on top of what they already has. Apparently some of the rescue workers refused to go in several days ago, and asked for transfers to another company operation.

- One thing good might yet come out of all of this. It may force the Government to actually get off their asses and install an effective form of real oversight in these sorts of dangerous operations. You simply cannot leave life and death decisions in the hands of local politicians and mine owners how depend on these mines for their livelyhood. Its a daangerous mix just waiting for an accident to happen.

Now there are 3 dead rescuers and 6 injured severly.
God bless them all, this is horrible and I suppose the trapped miners are in God's arms now.
They have got to figure out a way to keep these guys safe or swith to robotis to mine this much needed coal. These accidents can't continue.
P.S Good for Miss Bush and hopefully the loons on the left will let her alone --NOT.

You know a couple of years ago I read a story about high amounts of volcanic activity and earthquake activity in that area. I should have the story at work, I will have to find it and that might add some light as to what is going on. This is getting sadder by the day. :( I am still praying for these guys, and I still have a hope. - Lorica

*** News Alert ***\

- An additional accident has occured at the Crendle mine in Utah. Rescue operations were suspending a short time ago, and nine miners involved in the operation trying to locate 6 other miners, caught in a mine collapse 9 days, had to be brought out with some undefined injuries. As of now the word is that rescue operations have stopped. The acccident was reportedly caused by another "bounce", or shifting of the mountain sediments withing the mine. Another press conference is scheduled shortly to update the public.
