More reader picture submissions

Posted by: ST on November 25, 2007 at 1:22 pm

This is the sequel to my Wednesday posting of picture submissions from readers on what the surroundings look like where they are.

First up, a photo from Dunkestein from the deck of a friend of his in Northern Ontario this past summer:

2hotel9 sends in pictures of what Takoma Park, MD looked like on Thanksgiving day:

Steve Skubinna sends in more wonderful pix of Sasebo, Japan. The first two are of big bonsai trees:

The next two are of the Navy base HQ and the Fleet Landing respectively:

These two are from the Yosakoi Festival, held last month:

Great pix, all! Thanks for sending them in, and for giving us a taste of what life is like where you are :)

    More nice pics. Thanks, everybody.

Thanks Sis. If you look very closely at the bottom pic you can see an “Impeach Him” yard sign, on the other side it says “Impeach Them”. I hacked off the neighbor when I told him I agree! “Pelosi,Reid,Kennedy,Byrd,Rockefeller, et al do need impeached”,I said. “Look at their abysmal tenure as the majority in both Houses of Congress”, Then I took another couple pics as he stood there, suitably gobsmacked. It was hilarious.

Steveegg, are you the source for the Sasebo pics? If so COOL! I especially liked the one from Wednesday with the ships in harbor maneuvering. Hardly ever see that kind of pic, usually only see stock at sea or anchor shots.

2Hotel9: That’s the other Stevesan, none other than thee Skubinna from MY homestate. Some one else and I caught him cheatin’ on the Spring shots and now he owes me some fine tempura and a beer! :d

The only pics I have are of my wounded T-Bird after My family and I fixed it.

Yeah yeah yeah. There’s a pretty decent Tex-Mex place here too. Not San Diego quality, but better than one might expect in provincial Japan. In addition to the obligatory Corona they have Negra Modelo, Sol, Bohemia, Dos Equis (green and brown bottles) and Tecate. Not a bad selection by anyone’s standards for a Mexican restaurant outside of Mexico.

The shot of the JMSDF ships maneuvering was taken about three weeks ago. They’ve been very busy lately, with ships from the local flotilla plus visitors coming and going every day. My favorite Japanese ships homeported here are the three missile boats, two of which featured in that shot. They do 45 knots and I bet they’re a hoot to drive. Almost enough to make me wish I was Japanese… I’d have joined the JMSDF for sure.

On the other hand, our navigator made friends with somebody in the LCAC (hovercraft) detachment here, who told him to call when we get back from our next trip and he’d set us up for a ride. So maybe sometime next month I’ll have some pics from that.

Because that’s what ST’s site so desperately needs – more hovercraft photos!

Steve – thanks for the pictures from Sasebo. First I’ve seen of the place since ’73. Fiddler’s Green still there? :d

2Hotel9, as forest hunter said, nope, that’s not me. I did get in the first set of pics, however.
