This is something I’ve never done before…but this is one Cowboys’ fan who will be rooting for NC Cop’s Giants to win this one.

Thanks buddy!!! Start praying now because I have a feeling that nothing short of a full blown miracle is going to save the Giants on Sat. I shall root for them until I am blue, NY Giants blue that is, however I do not think this one’s going to be pretty.

New England does not have a good relationship with the NY teams and unless they sit Brady and alot of their starters, it could be a blowout.

Some of the stations I am forced to subscribe to in the package are in other languages which I will never watch. Some are stations that I can’t stand like MSNBC. I’m not happy that we will have to pay extra to watch sports in the future.

But, maybe it would make more sense for me to just pay for my basic 13 stations, and then pick and choose which extra channels I want, instead of being forced to pay for others viewing habits.

What It All means:

Next year, Goodell (and remember the whole network was Tagliabue’s idea–not his), will make a deal with the recalcitrant cable networks, just like Bud Selig did when he decided to start an MLB network. Comcast and Time Warner will get a piece of the network, it will then appear on their basic tiers, and they will get the rights to air the on demand football package now seen only on the satellite networks. That was what “Big Cable” was really holding out for, anyway. Of course, since it will go to basic, they’ll probably raise their monthly rates. Duh . . .

Yes, CBS and NBC will pick up the NFL net telecasts, so we’ll all have to put up with Bryant Gumbel.

To avoid Bryant Gumbel: Westwood 1 radio will be broadcasting the game nation-wide, presumably with Dick Enberg or another big name doing the broadcast.

In the northeast, radio outlets that usually pick up the Sunday or Monday night broadcasts from the local Patriot or Giants stations will no doubt do so.

So click on the TV, turn down the sound, and turn up your radios.

Notes and asides: Note that NBC and CBS, whose Saturday prime time telecasts normally consist of “Rerun Theatre,” as the Washington Post’s Reporter Who Covers Television, Lisa de Moraes, snarks, are picking up the game. Fox, which normally has “Cops” and “America’s Most Wanted,” will counter-program with those. Also, do not expect a great game. The Giants are headed for a playoff game with Tampa Bay the following week, and I doubt Coach Coughlin will risk injuries to his regulars. As for Tom Brady: who knows how long Coach Hoodie will play him, even though the Pats have a bye the first week of the playoffs.

I may stay up to watch the whole game … if it’s a close one. Otherwise I rise at 5AM to get to work on Sunday. Ugh!

The first Super Bowl was on NBC and CBS, although you can argue that the matchup was NFL-AFL. Still it was an NFL game.
