The author, a far left liberal activist by the name of Dave Lindorff, looks at global warming as a ‘welcomed’ genocide of sorts for conservative America:
Sat., 12/22/2007 – 19:21—Say what you will about the looming catastrophe facing the world as the pace of global heating and polar melting accelerates. There is a silver lining.
Look at a map of the US.
The area that will by completely inundated by the rising ocean—and not in a century but in the lifetime of my two cats—are the American southeast, including the most populated area of Texas, almost all of Florida, most of Louisiana, and half of Alabama and Mississippi, as well as goodly portions of eastern Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. While the northeast will also see some coastal flooding, its geography is such that that aside from a few projecting sandbars like Long Island and Cape Cod, the land rises fairly quickly to well above sea level. Sure, Boston, New York and Philadelphia will be threatened, but these are geographically confined areas that could lend themselves to protection by Dutch-style dikes. The West Coast too tends to rise rapidly to well above sea level in most places. Only down in Southern California towards the San Diego area is the ground closer to sea level.
So what we see is that huge swaths of conservative America are set to face a biblical deluge in a few more presidential cycles.
Then there’s the matter of the Midwest, which climate experts say is likely to face a permanent condition of unprecedented drought, making the place largely unlivable, and certainly unfarmable. The agribusinesses and conservative farmers that have been growing corn and wheat may be able to stretch out this doomsday scenario by deep well drilling, but west of the Mississippi, the vast Ogallala Aquifer that has allowed for such irrigation is already being tapped out. It will not be replaced.
So again, we will see the decline and depopulation of the nation’s vast midsection—noted for its consistent conservatism. Only in the northernmost area, around the Great Lakes (which will be not so great anymore), and along the Canadian border, will there still be enough rain for farming and continued large population concentrations, but those regions, like Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois, are also more liberal in their politics.
Finally, in the Southwest, already parched and stiflingly hot, the rise in energy costs and the soaring temperatures will put an end to right-wing retirement communities like Phoenix, Tucson and Palm Springs. Already the Salton Sea is fading away and putting Palm Springs on notice that the good times are coming to an end. Another right-wing haven soon to be gone.
So the future political map of America is likely to look as different as the much shrunken geographical map, with much of the so-called “red” state region either gone or depopulated.
There is a poetic justice to this of course. It is conservatives who are giving us the candidates who steadfastly refuse to have the nation take steps that could slow the pace of climate change, so it is appropriate that they should bear the brunt of its impact.
Read the whole thing.
Van Helsing responds appropriately:
Global warming has now degenerated into a sick masturbatory fantasy for ultra-leftists in clear need of psychiatric attention. But even as record snowfall buries Denver, the UN presses forward with plans to exploit the hoax to seize power and wealth.
All done, bizarrely, in the name of “helping others.” Go figure.

My colleague (a classic liberal Jew from New Yahk) and I (right-of-conservative So. Cal. goy) have long noticed the “saltwater” effect of politics — that large clumps of Democratic voters congregate near water (NY, SF, DC, Hawaii and the like) — although this leaves out the odd “Indian reservation” effect which also produces a Mass Democrat effect.**
Anyhoo — our correspondent should be worried about the impact of global warming on liberal bastions as well, however the screed fails because of the heavy-handed cherry-picking — only talking up ill effects on conservative regions.
Dopey piece of satire. I give it a 3-out-of-10.
** of course, I’m sure he also notices the underlying implication, that poor people (renters) tend to congregate in large cities. My question is, when will the poor finally glom onto the realization that the Democratic Party is not interested in helping them very much?
Does this idiot actually believe that all that water is going to stay on the Earth’s surface?? How stupid is that. Much of that water will find a way underground, that is what water does. – Lorica
I got the feeling that Lindorff would prefer a more “active” Final Solution to the Red State problem.
I’m just glad this kook has admitted that most of the food produced in our great Nation is done by Right-wing farmers. So do Lefties survive on their urban roof gardens and apartment grow lights?
These people have become distressingly predictable. Eventually one of them slips up and publishes his scenario for the Final Solution to the Conservative Question. Elimination of civil rights, mandatory reeducation, genocide, firing squads, concentration camps, they run the whole sick gamut.
All I have to say is, dream on, nancy boys. Enjoy your pathetic fantasies. And rest assured I do not reciprocate. I think it’d be a real treat if you’d just stop the whining, but I can’t be bothered to make you do it. Obviously my world is not so constricted, since there’s room for you in it, while there’s none for me in yours.
Does this make me a better person? Damn straight it does. But I’m not going to be smug about it, since being better than these twisted sacks of hate is no accomplishment.
Apparently Mr. Lindorff has never heard of that amazing conservative invention called the “moving van.” No doubt because he assumes we’d all be waiting for the government to rescue us instead of looking out for ourselves.
And since he has no inkling of democratic election processes– like, majority rule– he must not be aware of folks changing addresses and registering to vote at the new one. That this might change certain electoral outcomes has not occurred to him, I guess.
Lindorff is an empty-headed fool. And just a trifle hateful, too!
It is pretty obvious from this assessment that the Earth hates conservatives, but loves liberals. That is why the Earth created a hurricane that wiped out the Mississippi coastline, but only flooded New Orleans. See proof positive that the Earth loves liberals, and poor people. – Lorica
Lefties will un-breed themselves out of existence long before global warming floods red states.
What. An. Idiot.
Start with this:
Assuming his cats are both kittens, that means the entire southeast will be submerged in no more than 20 years? Even the Goracle isn’t saying anything that ridiculous. And you’ll notice he supplies absolutely no supporting scientific evidence. This is just the mindless raving of an unhinged lunatic.
But ignore his total lack of factual evidence for the moment. I’m much more intrigued by his self-righteous authoritarian streak. As in this:
OK…for a moment, let’s apply a new set of hypotheticals to his scenario. Lindorff’s based in Philadelphia. Suppose AQ gets its hands on a nuclear device and detonates it under the William Penn statue at City Hall. Lindorff survives and evacuates to…let’s say, Charlotte, North Carolina. Using his logic, it would be entirely justified to deny him civil rights (can’t give him the keys to the city), especially voting rights (because he has to be gerrymandered into political impotence). Since we don’t want liberals who fail to grasp the seriousness of global jihad “mucking things up again”, Sister Toldjah could tell him, “Shut up. We told you this would happen,” and be right to do so.
Of course that series of events wouldn’t transpire, because conservatives don’t have the dictatorial streak or the white-hot hatred of anyone who disagrees with them about anything.
Excellent analysis GWR and spot on comparisons! Though I am sorely tempted to fast forward into the digressing progressive soup and aid this particular order of troglodytes in their rush to eliminate themselves, as their mandatory viral abort code is announced.
LOLOLOLOL!!!
He talking about 20 odd years from now!
This mean the Sea Level increase that is barely going up has to accelerate incredibly to match his vision of catastrphe.
The IPCC thinks it will go up about 15″ in 100 years.
This writer thinks most of Florida will be underwater in a mere 20 some years. This means it has to go up at least 36″ in less than 25 years.
Meanwhile there is a slight NET growth of snow and ice at Greenland and Antarctica. That makes up about 98% of the worlds ice that is growing.Meanwhile the Artic has been in rapid recovery the last 2 months and now faces a future with INCREASING ice formation.
I think this writer is mentally ill.
