I would like to believe that McCain would dip into the conservative well for his VP; however, that dip would not in and of itself sway me from compiling my short list of write-ins and choosing from them come November. I may be different than the average person, but I see VP nominees as more a potential deal-breaker than a deal-maker.

As for who he will take, there will be far too much pressure to take somebody who is not a white male because at a minimum, the top half of the Dem ticket will not have a white male on it. The problem is, other than JC Watts and Michael Steele, I don’t see a prominent conservative Republican who isn’t a white male.

A real conservative must be his pick. I don’t trust McCain because of his record. The only thing that is going to inspire me to vote for him is if his actions belie the words that he spoke at CPAC yesterday. A conservative VP selection would be one of those actions I will be looking for.

My picks are Fred Thompson, J.C. Watts, Jim DeMint, your pick Mark Sanford would be good too.

But anyone who has been going on and on about the Reagan revolution being over (I’m looking at you Michael Steele) are not a good option. I don’t want anyone in the line who doesn’t believe that what Reagan stood for is what we, as Republicans, should stand for.
