Is it important for conservatives to focus on the future and find a prominent spokesperson to give voice to our principles in the next few years? Of course. So I don't fault the group's objectives.

But is Romney the one? Sure, by February 5 he was the last one standing, and yes, his concession speech at CPAC was one of the best we'll hear all year. But before we go anointing him, let's make sure he's the real deal.

If the purpose of this group's meeting with Romney was to put him on notice that they'll be watching him closely for the next 4 ( or 8 ) years to make sure he's not backsliding, I'm OK with it. If it was to come hat in hand and ask him to be the leader...no. I want to see more than a year's campaign rhetoric. I want to see him out there this year and in 2010 stumping and fund-raising for conservative candidates. I voted for him on 2/5, but that was more a vote against McCain than for Romney. He needs to prove it should be the other way around.

The only reason I've stopped debunking you in the comments line by line is because you are making my arguments for me better than I ever could. With that thought in mind, scratch what I said in the above paragraph. Keep it up.

That's not very original, Ted. It's laughable to suggest you've been "debunking" me in any thread, because the fact is you haven't. Outside of your repeatedly misrepresenting my opinion, as well as others, the only thing you continue to do is try to lecture all of us on how you are the only "principled" conservative here because of how you are choosing to exercise your right to vote this election. Please, spare us already, and get over yourself. Just because people don't fall in line with your wish to "destroy" this country if you don't get what you want, in order to teach it a lesson doesn't mean they are any less principled (that is, if you can call wanting to destroy this country "principled").

BTW, Ted, do you plan on addressing at all the substance of my argument about Romney's questionable conservative credentials and the prominent conservatives who propped him up?

Why would I? I agree, remember? I commented long ago that Romney's socialist heathcare history as scarier thn hell.

That's my issue- the Republicans aren't offering a single conservative to vote for. Hell, the closest thing you have to a conservative running is Ron Paul, a libertarian.

Just to let you all know, Steele "softened" his stance on A LOT of issues when he ran for Senator in 06.

A lot of conservatives stayed home, Steele didn't get the "McCain" moderates he was hoping for and lost. And he even made ugly comments about how the conservatives cost him the election, not HIS leftward swing

Ted, first you accused me of being a mindless shill for the Republican party, and now you're accusing me of wanting to elect a "socialist" as president. You might want to re-think your arguments, and reconsider what I've written before you write such nonsense again.

The only reason I've stopped debunking you in the comments line by line is because you are making my arguments for me better than I ever could. With that thought in mind, scratch what I said in the above paragraph. Keep it up.

I'm eager to heal the divisions and wounds within the conservative movement, too, but - to borrow a phrase from La Clinton - I'm not willing to suspend disbelief in order to do so.

However, you seem to be willing to suspend disbelief in order to elect a globalist/socialist into the White House that for some reason, you think will execute the GWoT? The same man who supports a globalist agenda? The same man who wants to shut down Gitmo? The same man who is against water boarding? The same man who was once supported by George Soros?

But having your heart and mind in the right place as far as the GWOT is concerned does not automatically make one a conservative. Just ask Joe Lieberman.

Why doncha ask Juan McLame instead? :o

They should have been approaching Fred Thompson - out of all the candidates he was the only one who really did espouse the Conservative values.
