Tom, you really are dense with respect to cause and effect aren't you? No matter if the non-immunity part of the bill is passed, the telecoms will resist providing info unless their immunity is guaranteed. What is so hard to understand about that? It's not like a FISA request, where they have a court order demanding compliance, the rapid nature of this means that the data needs gotten to now, not after a court order. Go up to a telecom, even as the govt, and say hey give us this data now, without either immunity or a court order demanding it (which grants immunity) and they will tell you to go pound sand.

So, this is the typical liberal method of wanting to appear to do something while preventing it. Whine, like you ignorantly do, that "well then pass the bill without the immunity and do that seperately" knowing full well that that will not actually accomplish anything, the telecoms will still not cooperate without the immunity, so you will look like you've cooperated on national security while still kneecapping it and stopping any surveillance from happening. All the while the MSM will trumpet how wonderfully bipartisanly you are acting.

It's a dodge, and proves once again the liberal Dems have no concern for national security, only for grandstanding, paying back the contributions from their main base of trial lawyers (cough, jackals, cough), and impeding the war effort.

Sev, that doesn't mean the telecoms can't have their immunity - it just needs to stand on its own- in a seperate bill- so our elected officials can't hide behind a piece of legislation named "Protect America". Either it's life and death or not! He's either a liar or a hypocrite. Pick one.

Because without the immunity, the telecoms are resisting providing info to the government. But, for Democrats, appeasing the trial lawyer industry, one of their most loyal and major contributers, is more important than protecting the country.

McCarthy is a fearmonger who beleives that extending the PAA is a life and death issue. "This is not politics, folks. For grown-ups, this is life and death" he claimed. Then why not drop the Telecom Immunity from this legislation and try to pass it seperately? Let the Telecom Immnunity stand on its own. Why are the Republicans not willing to extend it? ST's hypocracy antanae should be sticking straight up on this one!
