OK, wait a minute.

While I don't condone in any way what Ms. Canney has done (or, further, continues to do) a couple of things I've noted:

1. University of St. Thomas is a private school, which gives them some latitude as to the attitudes and curriculum they choose to espouse; and

2. University of St. Thomas is also a Catholic school, which usually limits what they do and how they do it. In particular, this school's particular patron saint is St. Augustine, the Dominican friar responsible for the monastic "Rule of St. Augustine."

From their website: "The university is not owned or governed by the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, but the ex-officio chairman of the university's board is Archbishop Harry Flynn. He became chairman in 1995."

The above statement does not preclude the support most Catholic schools of any grade level get from the Church itself, which can be substantial. I am sure the Archdiocese has a considerable interest in the operative budget of the school.

I'm sure the doctors of the church would be most interested in what's going on here, particularly as regards the conduct of their VP/SA. I am fairly sure Sts. Thomas Aquinas and Augustine are spinning in their tombs.

Hm.

Sis, you've just so obviously been misled as to what "academic freedom" means. It means that speakers on campus are free to support "liberation theology," and nothing more.

Please make a note of it.
