Anthony/Leslie great comments and may you continue in your efforts to point the way to those who cannot find it on their own and are deceived by the points you've both breeched.

Keep up the good work one and all....I love it here!

Both candidates will move toward the center. That's a given. It happens every four years.

But this is an election cycle in which one of the candidates, Obama, has wrapped himself up in a mythos, the mythos of "change." McCain's task, regardless of how far to the center he moves, is to unmyth (unmask?) Obama, and frankly I don't know how he can do it. I'll just suggest that he's probably the only Republican that has a shot at it.

For the past half a year, I have pondered the issue of precisely what this "change" Obama speaks of is all about. I have joked about whether it's animal, vegetable, or mineral; what color it is; how it is packaged. But I have come to see that it hardly matters. Change to Obama is merely Alfred Hitchcock's McGuffin--the object everybody is chasing after. As Hitchcock explained in an interview, it doesn't matter what the McGuffin is--it only matters that everybody wants it and is chasing after it.

And right now it appears that the American Voting Public is chasing after "change." That would seem to be beyond debate. I would suggest, however, that what is very debatable is whether they will like "change" when and if it finally arrives. That, my friends, remains very much to be seen. I wouldn't even offer a guess as to that, but I suspect that we're about to find out.

I am no fan of McCain, and am personally sick and tired of voting for the "lessor of two evils", but an Obama presidency, with a Pelosi led House, and a Reid led senate; one that might very well end up with a filibuster-proof majority, would be a disaster. The only way that I could see going for a third party candidate would be if I lived in a solid red or solid blue state, where it doesn't make a difference if I vote or not. Otherwise, I'd have to hold my nose and vote for McCain.

Obama will be tacking right, while McCain will be touting his "centrist" credentials, which will irritate the hell out of conservatives, including yours truly.

It can be annoying, yes (especially his acceptance of the global warming nonsense), but the center-right and right need to face a particular fact*: the Republicans so damaged themselves with their fiscal irresponsibility and corruption in years since 2000 that, to use a cliche, the brand is tainted in the public eye. The undecided middle is saying to conservatives "You've had your chance, you blew it, and we don't trust you much."** To win, McCain has to tack to the center to draw those votes back. Remember, he has a lifetime conservative rating in the 80s, as I recall, so it's not as if he's Howard Dean in sheep's clothing.

McCain's not a perfect conservative and never will be. (And, to be honest, neither am I) But for all the headaches he's sure to give us in the next four years as president, it will be a darned sight better than the nausea we'd get from a BO presidency. Just remember what Ronald Reagan used to say (paraphrased): "Would you rather have 50% of what you want, or 100% of nothing?" /:)

*(Well, there are several reasons for the Republicans' decline, but this was the first to come to mind.)

**(Of course, hard-core conservatives can say the same about Maverick from the other direction, to be fair.)

Concerning the last part and Thomas Sowell's wish for me to vote for McCain.

Obama recently gave an hysterically pretentious speech about his elevation to the Presidency that would finally heal all the sick, give jobs to everyone and rescue the planet. I wrote to an Obama supporter how sickening this sort of announcement is.

She wrote back that McCain has exactly the same platform.

There went my plan to begin to support McCain. He has exactly the same domestic policies as hard-Left Obama. And given his recent mouthings about Guantanamo, I no longer feel confident that he has a different foreign policy.

For me, if there was a turning point in Hilly the Hun's campaign it was the fake Bosnian sniper fire incident.

It was the sort of lie that the Clintons regularly told for decades and easily got away with. Heckfire - it was a little bity lie compared to some of the whoppers they have told. The MSM always fawned over them like they were rock stars and covered up for them.

But the Hun failed to realize that the Messiah had come. And since she would not voluntarily step aside for Him, she had to be pushed. Hard.

Suddenly the wife of the First Black President found herself being accused of dividing America, of lust for power, of sexual frigidity, of (oh, the horror!) racism. She was treated just like ..... a Republican!
