One other point: Senator McCain wrapped up the nomination reasonably early, while Senator Obama had a contest going on for quite a while. If crossover support was actually even, we should see more Republicans crossing over to vote for Mr Obama, simply because there was no need to vote for Mr McCain after he had wrapped things up.

Well, I can think of one Republican who changed his registration to Democrat for the purpose of voting against Hillary Clinton in the Pennsylvania primary. :) That person switched back to Republican within a week after the primary had passed. Maybe I'm counted as a Obamacan, but if Senator Obama is counting on my vote in November, he's going to be rather disappointed.

=)) The real joke here is that someone would actually consider Chaffee a Republican. Especially since his own admission that he only joined the Rep party because he thought it would be easier for him to get elected.

As far as Leach, I am sorry but I grew up in his district in Iowa, and he did very little for the people in that district. It got so bad for Eastern Iowa, that Iowa actually lost a district and he had to be moved to the south eastern district. And now all he has done is hang out with liberal elitists and I wonder the change in his attitude. Some people are more sheep than persons. - Lorica

Then, too, there's a built-in "Democrats for [Insert GOP Candidate Here]" core that has existed since 1980. There are a lot of registered Democrats Out There who haven't voted for the national presidential ticket since 1976, but who still register as Democrats and vote that way, maybe, in state and local elections.

If there is a similar built-in "Republicans for [Insert Democratic Candidate Here]" core, I'm unaware of it.
