I’ve been expecting it to get ugly the past two weeks, as Obama stalls out and fails to gain ground. As his massive vulnerabilities becomes obvious, and his empty rhetoric fails to ring chimes and drive tingles up legs, his people are going to be driven to the realization that despite having the MSM in the tank for them, they are going to have to come out swinging, try to hurt McCain. Watch for immediately after the conventions, I expect Obama to get almost no bounce and then they’ll bring out the nukes.

Slinging mud is going to hurt Obama more than it will McCain, for two strong reasons: it negates his previous claim to be a “new” kind of politician, above the partisan fray, and he’s much more vulnerable given his lack of accomplishment, hard left background, and long term association with noxious characters.

So by all means get tought, Barry-Oh. It’s going to blow up in your face and you’ll end up making Wile E. Coyote look like a cross between James Bond and McGyver.

Why?

Because these two candidates both claimed to be running on change: freedom from special interests, a movement towards “the center”, and an escape from negative campaigns. (The belief that it would last is more than a little naive) Still, maybe the electorate will wake up and realize that there are intrinsic problems in our political system. It’s going to take more than one election, or one candidate, to fix the basic corruption problems in Presidential politics.

The thing is, camojack, so far it is really political junkies who are paying attention. The swing voters are starting to pay attention now, which is why Barry has been dropping. You are also getting some Dems who have lost that loving feeling, and are looking for substance switching to McCain.

The other thing is, politics are so polarized nowadays, that it is always going to be close.

Come November, I expect McCain to squeak one out.
