The pilot couldn’t have found a better spot. He put the plane down about .25 mi. from the midtown piers where ferries from NJ and the excursion boats dock. They had people out of the water and onto the boats within minutes.

The plane has been towed downtown to near the World Financial Center and anchored to a pier near there.

CNN covered it well, except for the idiotic weather guy who was called upon to discuss water temperature, and didn’t know that the Hudson River is a tidal estuary and that the salt water from the harbor circulates well north, past the G.W. Bridge; and that the current is reversible depending on whether the tide is going in or out.

The plane collided with a flock of geese, it seems.

I’m about 26 miles from La Guardia on a tidal cove off of Long Island Sound, and we’ve had huge numbers of Canada geese fly in and out for the last 2 weeks; 50+ at a time. God bless this pilot’s judgement and skill!

Here is the best video I could find relating to the Hudson river crash of U.S. Airways Flight 1549. This emergency landing was a “miracle.”
