It's damned tough for a pilot to stay sharp and capable enough to handle emergencies when most of your career is driving a large airborne bus, but when it hits the fan, it's amazing how often they do well. In this case Capt. Sully is one of the cream of the crop of aviators, well worthy of his wings. He had to grease that beast in just right to keep it from spinning and breaking up, which would have lead to a completely different outcome.
