Ever wonder how liberals can, on one hand, pitch a fit over “how much money we’re wasting in Iraq” because they believe that money can be better used in our own back yard, yet on the other hand can turn right back around and go into orbit with happiness over the fact that President Obama has reversed a Bush executive order that banned sending US dollars to other countries to help pay for abortions and “abortion-related information”?
Guess supporting US troops as part of an overall effort to stabilize Iraq so they can eventually leave is “a waste” – an outrage, in fact, but helping a woman in a foreign country get rid of her “parasite” is “worth it.”
Hmmm …
Given this economy, how on earth does the Obama Administration justify spending money overseas on this subject?
Truly heart wrenching.
Why is President Bush evil for fighting for women’s rights in Iraq and Afghanistan but Obama is praised for giving money for abortions and birth control? Will the money go to the countries who treat women like slaves and will the women be forced to have abortions?
That’s just it. He doesn’t have to justify it. The media will not question the Obamessiah and there aren’t enough Republicans with spines to raise enough of a stink.
It’s done.
Since you asked nicely…
I think it depends on how the money is spent (something I have not seen broken down as of yet). If 90% or more of the money is spent on family planning or preventative measures, I’m ok with that. Stabilizing poverty through sex education (or prevention) can only help stabilize third world countries in the long run. Beliefnet seems to agree with me on this. Reducing poverty may also prevent further wars or terrorist organizations from gaining a foothold. (of note: according to the link US dollars cannot go to abortion…).
The biggest problem I have with Iraq (now that we’re stuck there) is the sheer amount wasted on people (or corporations) that underbid a project, and then spectacularly fail to deliver (ie KBR). Or accounting practices that allow money to disappear.
If this is budgeted the same way, then I’m not happy either. However, if my anger raises by dollar price, and we can’t account for billions in Iraq. I don’t think we’re planning to spend billions on family planning, but I could be wrong.
Hope this explains my viewpoint.
Here’s a little more detailed breakdown of the package:
Obama Stimulus Package
Ok, this is where I get confused. For the last few years all we have heard is “We can spend that money here at home!!” and “We can’t solve the world’s problems” or “We can’t be the world’s policeman”, well I’m here to say that we can’t be the worlds condom factory. It’s suddenly ok to spend millions of dollars in other countries.
To a certain extent, I agree, but let’s not forget Osama bin Laden is a billionare. Poverty had nothing to do with his hatred for America.
I agree, I don’t think anyone would disagree with you on that one, but government corruption is everywhere including here at home in our own capital. It seems unfair to use it as an argument against Iraq when our entire system is wrought with corruption.
