this is aimed at having any legit criticism coming from the right labelled as doing nothing more than “playing political games.”

Bingo. I think this is going be his MO. We saw it in his inaugural speech. He claims that he’s nonpartisan and pragmatic and that his opposition is ideological.

It’s BS of course, and who knows, he may even believe it. Unfortunately the reality is there’s not much the GOP can do about it right now.

That’s what happens when you lose elections.

Now that’s helpful. I guess he’s saying that they didn’t take the time to research the bill, they just want to be ornery.

The way to fix the economy is cut personal income taxes (for people who actually PAY taxes, not sending out phony “rebate” checks), cut capital gains taxes, and cut corporate taxes. Then get out of the way as people start spending their money, investing in the stock market and hiring people to make all the stuff the other people are buying. It worked when Kennedy did it, it worked when Reagan did it, and it worked when Bush did it.

No, you’re not, Dana.

Before the government can spend a dime, it has to get the money, since government produces no wealth. There are only three ways to get it.

They can get it through taxes, which means the private sector has less money for business, saving, etc….which leads to less business for the local supermarkets, computer stores, etc. That doesn’t help the economy.

They can run the printing presses and inflate the currency. That immediately lowers everyone’s standard of living as prices move upward to compensate for the devalued dollar. In the extreme case, you get Zimbabwe.

Or they can borrow the money, which always catches up with governments eventually, leading to a combination of the previous two cases.

There’s a reason free markets and the business cycle go hand-in-hand with prosperity and liberty.

Am I the only one who thinks that maybe the best thing the government can do for the economy is to do nothing at all?

The economy will recover, because the economy always recovers; that’s just part of the business cycle. But President Obama would add spending programs that would push the deficits to above a trillion dollars a year, far as far as the eye can see. That can’t be good.

Does anyone have a clue what the Republicans are up to? Either they’ve totally fallen for Obama’s BS or they’re rushing through everyone and everything he’s asking for in hopes he fails miserably. Either way we as the American people are screwed and I’m truly sick of it!

And why shouldn’t the Messiah bark orders at the GOP? So far they have not objected, much less stood up for themselves.

I saw the GOP lawmakers who were interviewed when they came out of the meeting with the Chosen One. With the exception of Pence, all of them gushed about “bipartisanship”. I was waiting for them to turn their backs to the cameras so I could see the KICK ME signs that Democrats had attached.
