As for the Mossadeq allegations, they are probably correct in that the US and Britain were complicit in his overthrow, which is a shame. However, prior to the Revolution, most Iranian citizens had high opinions of Americans, in general (my wife being born in Iran during the Revolution). Iranians, at the time, were pretty adept at differentiating between a government program in the 1950s, and the actual American populace in the 1970s.

But Obama should not be apologizing for anything, certainly not before the Iranians apologize for the hostage crisis, and definitely not before the population is made free. We don’t owe the mullahs anything, and any apology that can be deemed to legitimize their claims and lies about the US should be avoided. They tell their people we are the Great Satan and that they must have Islamic rule so they don’t turn into some god-less country like the US. An apology would only allow the mullahs to turn around and say, ‘See, what we told you is right. Even the Americans are apologizing for what they have done.’

I just put up a post last night were Rosa Brooks declared that Obama ‘finally ended the war on Islam.’ I couldn’t believe how ridiculous that statement was. Thank you for this link, which I am adding to the post.

Charlie the K. makes some good points. However, apparently he fails to realize that the 60 years the Iranians mention include the time of the coup, which many believe was staged by the CIA, in the early 1950s against Prime Minister Mohammed Mossaddeq. LINK
