The first time I heard about his politics was in 1993, at Bill Clinton's inaugural. He said he was initially annoyed by the flyover of Air Force jets celebrating the inauguration, until he realized "those are our planes now." 9/11 changed him. He understood the need to unite against the islamofascists, no matter who was in the White House. Ron Silver was that rarest of men: a liberal who had the integrity to put the good of his country ahead of party and power. As for personal courage, how much did it take to stand up and be counted for George Bush in 2004 and beyond - when you work in a den of leftists like Hollywood?
