Why do I get the sneaking suspicion someone’s just waiting until we turn our attention somewhere else for the moment?

I wrote before of being aghast at the Obama administration’s idea to make US military personnel buy private insurance to pay for treatment for combat wounds by the VA. I felt certain they’d realize how stupid and insulting this proposal……

Which is pure fantasy. Not only are at least some of those policies less expensive because the insurers knew some things would be paid by military insurance, but most policies exclude a host of “pre-existing” conditions – regardless of origin.

As with the proposal to tax an employer’s contribution to insurance as an individual’s income – blasted during the 2008 campaigns but now OK, especially as McCain’s “but offset with a deduction” has been dropped – this is probably a step on the road to government-only health care as done in the UK, rather than government-plus-private as in France.

Or, more precisely, they SAY they care. But honestly, how much CAN they when they try to do stuff like this?
