Well, you see, if the donks lose control of Congress in 2010 or the presidency in 2012 (both highly unlikely at this stage) they can blame the Republicans (again). If they retain control of both Congress and the presidency past 2012, His Hollowness can ride in on his champion steed, propose another generation of debt beyond what he’s already saddled the next four generations with, and be the wonderful savior he knows he is for all us common riff-raff out here in the hinterlands.

With the artful, deceitful help of the media [those willing sycophants of anything that restricts freedom (except their own)] it should be a piece of cake for the Illinois shyster.

And like as not, the old fools on SS and the youngins paying for it will thank him for screwing them again. You know the most prominent of the senior organizations will be on their knees for him, and the public-school educated youth are too dumb to understand the screwing they’re getting now, let alone then.

Ahhhh Yet another major policy foul up that the Democrats own, but refuse to take deed too. With this present Dem leadership, it shocks me that anyone would ever vote for them again. How bad must the Republican party be, in order for these clowns to be in control. – Lorica

This is just one issue that the GOP allowed the Left to define off the table for them. Bush never proposed privatizing SS entirely. In fact, he proposed privatizing a miniscule portion of it for anyone who voluntarily chose that route. But Bush and the GOP leadership were (and are) so inept at explaining themselves that they botched the job of countering the scare tactics opponents dredged up.

I realize that Bush often chose not to defend himself and his policies, but the so-called GOP leadership was then, and still seems to be, simply inept or downright incompetent.
