Van Jones throws himself under the bus, resigns from Obama admin

The Truther-man is out:

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama’s adviser Van Jones has resigned amid controversy over past inflammatory statements, the White House said early Sunday.

Van Jones, an administration official specializing in environmentally friendly “green jobs” with the White House Council on Environmental Quality was linked to efforts suggesting a government role in the 2001 terror attacks and to derogatory comments about Republicans.

The resignation comes as Obama is working to regain his footing in the contentious health care debate.

Jones issued an apology on Thursday for his past statements. When asked the next day whether Obama still had confidence in him, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said only that Jones “continues to work in the administration.”

The matter surfaced after news reports of a derogatory comment Jones made in the past about Republicans, and separately, of Jones’ name appearing on a petition connected to the events surrounding the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks. That 2004 petition had asked for congressional hearings and other investigations into whether high-level government officers had allowed the attacks to occur.

“On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me,” Jones said in his resignation statement. “They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide.”

One administration radical down, many more to go.

“Lies and The Lying Liars Who Tell Them”

Mr. Jones is the poster boy for such, since we can’t use his boss.

  2. proof says:

In the dead of night, on a holiday weekend, a Democrat embarrassment slips away quietly. Figures.

  3. Anthony says:

Beck annoys the tar out of me, but he’s won a major victory here. So who’s next on his list? Valerie “Slum Lord” Jarrett?

  4. Baklava says:

    Dear Leftists,

    Van Jones is a quitter.

I believe you can keep your mouth shut about Sarah Palin now. Lying scum !

  5. Homer Boiteux (Baton Rouge) says:

Jones says he was a victim of “a vicious smear campaign.” That’s what he calls it now when his own words get quoted back at him, huh? Since he can’t deny what he’s said, all that’s left is to denounce those who have the gall to quote him to himself.

  6. b. pocoroba says:

Well, son of a gun, now we know where the line is…Jones was too big of a commie loser to stay in the top levels of our nation’s government…does that mean everyone else there is ok? I’m sure that must be the case.

  7. Carol says:

Glenn Beck better watch his back … and anyone else who let’s the American people know what’s really going on in Washington.

  8. 2Hotel9 says:

Sorry, gang, this guy is going nowhere, except into the closet. Cockroaches hide from the light, they never go away.

  9. Carlos says:

2H9, does that mean Duh-1 will never go away?

  10. Carol says:

2Hotel9, that’s a great point. You hit the nail on the head. He ain’t going nowhere!

  11. Severian says:

This just proves the old adage that Republicans and conservatives fear being quoted out of context, while Democrats and liberals fear being quoted accurately and in context.

The MSM will spin this away, they are already saying that the only reason he is controversial is that he called those whiny Republicans a**holes. They will sweep the real reasons under the table, when they report on it at all, and he will slink back into the admin in some less visible position and still pull strings. Bet on it.

But, kudos to Beck, he is the one that really gave this story legs, but he’d better watch his back now for real. His show Monday should be a doosie, and have incredible audience numbers.

    Couldn’t happen to a more deserving “assh*le”.

  13. Kate says:

Yup, as he states, this was all a vicious smear campaign! The nerve of FOX/Glenn Beck to take actual quotes and use them to enlighten people. Well, he won’t let this get him down I am sure. I can hear it now….whitey’s goon squads just did me wrong…rise up brothers. Yeah, that’s what he’ll say when he’s with his homies.

  14. jo says:

One all-powerful, leftist Communist thug who answers to no one down, how many more to go? Exactly right–don’t confront them with their own looney biases showing. They’ll call it a white conspiracy.

Green jobs? Hell, he doesn’t even know what a real job is. Never had one and never will.
Glad to see the dirtbag gone.:d/
If he wants sympathy, it’s in the dictionary, between s*** and syphillis, he can look it up.

:d Glenn, my late father, a 30 yr Air Force First Sargent, was always very fond of that expression!

  17. Baklava says:

I can only think of the word “quitter”

  18. Dana says:

Now, you can’t call a guy a quitter just because he found out that he had resigned! :)

  19. Tom TB says:

How can you “smear” someone when all you do is replay public appearances they proudly made? It’s hard for me to believe there is an Obama “shadow” government; these people don’t know when to shut up!

  20. Gabby says:

The recently departed VJ’s bonefides, which reflect what the present administration truly believes, were unfortunately not well enough cloaked to be spun away.

He had his job because he is one of them. Miz Jarrett said as much. A rare, clearly focused look into the soul of what drives the Executive branch of our government. Take note, if you haven’t already figured it out.

  21. Brontefan says:

Well stated, Glenn Cassel! From an ex Navy WAVE… Vietnam-era veteran, and military widow: I loved his resignation letter about how he was a victim of “a vicious smear campaign.” Everything reported was from his own mouth–he showed himself for what he really is–a communist, anti-American, racist. AND just for the record, when did it become fashionable to sign something you hadn’t read???? What in hell are we paying these elected officials for anyway? I was raised that people with integrity don’t sign anything they have not read.

  22. Ron Russell says:

First to fall hopefully a chain reaction with a big bang at the end—-Obama’s head on a spike.

  23. Dr.D says:

Just like all great art, it is very pleasant to see the van go.

  24. Anthony says:

    Severian, Glenn,

Glenn, my late father, a 30 yr Air Force First Sargent,

Have you ever noticed that sergeants are very wise people? ;)

  25. Mike from NC says:

You people have it all wrong. The truth is that Van Jones was forced out of office because he was a man in a powerful position and he was black. Everybody knows we conservatives are racist, close minded bigots. Why, just watch MSNBC, they will tell you all about it. We don’t tolerate people of color – well, except for Clarence Thomas (first black Supreme Ct Justice) and Colin Powell (first black Sec. of State) and Condie Rice (2nd black Sec of State) and Michael Steele (RNC Chairman)and…well, okay, maybe a few. Just because a guy thinks the gov’t contributed to the Sept 11 attack, and is a self avowed communist. He said he was sorry. Come on. When will we become enlightened?

  26. Steve Skubinna says:

What perplexed me the most about all this was why a self proclaimed Communist was given a task involving jobs of any kind, however green. Back during the worst days of the Cold War, when the Soviets were ten feet tall and Carter was telling us we needed to get used to diminished expectations and accept that the USSR would be a permanent fixture, a favorite claim from the left was that there was 100% employment there.

Sure, there were other lies too, about the level of freedom and the high standard of living and the impressive organizational feats by a system that coudn’t manage to build sufficient apartments for people or produce enough cars for everyone who wanted one. Those of us with access to reports from within the beast knew better – or so we thought. The horrible bleak reality of existence under the crushing weight of the vilest lie ever perpetrated upon mankind was far worse.

So two decades after the implosion of Lenin and Stalin’s abortion, when nobody has any excuse for asinine idealistic illusions as to the nature of that misbegotten system, why did anyone think one of them ought be allowed anywhere near the administration? I can forgive Jones’ stupidity for being a Commie, I cannot overlook the lunacy, the sheer staggering incomprehension of what this country is about that lead Obama and his coterie to think that this was the guy, the one best possible candidate.

I repeat – in this nation, Communists have no damn business in government, any more than schools ought to hire convicted pedophiles. Or that major newspapers should hire persons capable of investigative reporting, critical thought, and logic. That’s just crazy.

  27. Carlos says:

Steve, I’d only add that the schools have no business employing socialist/communist teachers, either. But then, most airheads coming out of Ed schools have no idea what their political ideologies are, only that they “want to make the world a better place.”

Kinda sounds like the airhead answers we used to get in Miss America contests…

  28. Elektra says:

Now, there’s a Truther documentary on NatGeo. :-w

    Anyone watch it?

  29. Mike from NC, that was pretty good parody of how the left thinks!

It was pointed out on The Corner the other day that when Bill Clinton threw Lani Guinier under the bus he disavowed her views entirely. By doing so he insulated himself from the charge that he agreed with her. Obama has not done this with Van Jones, and so the episode will continue to haunt him.

I’ll say this for Bill Clinton, he was a lot more politically savvy and moderate than I gave him credit for at the time.

  30. Ron Russell says:

The MSM is still for the most part saying “Van Who”!!!:x

  31. Nina says:

Spread the wealth is the new code for reparations. Jones and the rest of the marxist czars were brought together to implement a socialist agenda so they can achieve their goal. Take a look at the black caucus embracing Castro,Chavez and threatening to nationalize the oil industry. America better wake up.

  32. Carlos says:

The suggestion that Van Jones should be only the first is admirable but highly unlikely. If all the Truthers and socialists/nazis were taken out of the administration there would be no one left! And that would go deep into Congress to boot!

  33. Dave B says:

Nina: I think America woke up. A green czar resigned over all the controversy resulting in his hate filled, socialist views WITHOUT a single word being whispered about the whole thing from the MSM. God Bless Fox News and talk radio. The left is going to go after them long and hard because of this.

  34. Lorica says:

Just another racist…glad to see him go. – Lorica

  35. Pablo says:

    Watermelons.
VJ is a perfectly normal watermelon, green on the outside but – - – - – (with lots of little things you just can’t swallow, so have to spit out)

Obama said “You ask who I am? Look at the people who surround me.” Of course he mentioned Buffet and a couple of other “acceptables”, but HE DID NOT MENTION Ayers, VJ and the Rev.
So don’t be be surprised by a few more “surprises”

Carlos, tienes toda la razon (comment #1, “Lies and The Lying Liars Who Tell Them”) but the snowball gets bigger as it rolls and I would not be surprised if the half-term elections set the stage for a repeat of what happened to Nixon when he lied to the Nation. :)>- :)>-

  36. Pablo says:

just in case some of you folks don’t read Spanish – what I said to Carlos (tienes toda la razon) was – “you are absolutely right”
    ‘Cos he is.

    Pablo

  37. Carlos says:

Pablo, thank you. But I must hasten to add, Tricky was elected to a second term and THEN thrown out (most difficult to do Constitutionally). Even if the Republicans gain significantly in the midterms, Duh-1 will have another two years to massage his program into something palatable to unthinking people, easily led sheep and “independents”, then, after re-election, try to ram his programs through again maybe using a different tack.

We’ll see. But in the meantime it’s our job to turn as much light onto his nefarious hidden agendas that his hope of re-election will diminish appropriately. It’s our job to bring the transparency to his administration he promised, and to get rid of more people like VJ that are infecting our government to its core.

  38. Steve Skubinna says:

Actually Carlos, Nixon resigned when he realized that Congress and the Senate were not on his side, and would certainly vote articles of impeachment.

Which, sad to say, showed he had more class and a greater sense of propriety than Clinton does.

  39. Carlos says:

What is even sadder to say is that, as callous and unrepentant as Clinton was, he still had more class than our present glorious leader ever will have, even in his wildest dreams, classless thug if ever there was one, who would put Richard Daley, Sr., to shame with his manipulative abilities.

  40. Steve Skubinna says:

You’re right, Carlos, politics has become a race to the bottom. Perhaps it always was, but up to now the bottom always seemed comfortably far off.

  41. Pablo says:

Steve, when politicians lose sight of the true and proper functions of government, democracy is violated and politics can not help but go rotten.

Wasn’t democracy meant to be freedom to vote, freedom to vote the way you want to (with secret ballot as guarantee of this), a guarantee that your vote is worth something, and involve just one vote per person ??
Now, union bosses hate secret ballots, they tell you you must vote and how you must vote.
Therefore, YOU do not have a vote, but the union boss has THOUSANDS.
And the Democrat Party supports this.

    They should change their name.
“NSDAP” would do just fine – oh sorry, that one’s been used already, about 8o years ago by a Charlie Chaplin lookalike.
So how about a small variation – NSADP – New Socialist Anti-democratic Phalanx

After all, unions were set up, controlled and utilized by the governing parties in both USSR and Nazi Germany, example closely followed by Mussolini, Peron (pro-Nazi), 50′s Bolivia (Nazi-modeled), Hussein’s Irak, as well as every “Democratic” and “People’s” country from Albania to North Korea, plus Cuba, Allende’s Chile and now Venezuela.
