AP figures out that false accusations of racism dilutes its meaning

Posted by: ST on September 18, 2009 at 9:17 am

My question is: what the hell took them so long to figure this out? Many in the GOP have been falsely accused of “racism” for years now on just about every issue, ranging from public assistance programs to military recruitment, and just about everything in between. And for the last two years any criticism of Obama and his policies by opponents have been declared “racism” without any real response from the administration nor MSM outlets.

It’s nice to see that at least one liberal mainstream media news outlet has caught on, but it would have been nice to see them catch on at they very least last year, when it fase accusations of racism were routinely coming from the Obama campaign – when media outlets “catching on” might have made a difference in the outcome of the election.

But then again, the MSM wouldn’t have been able to profit from Obama’s “historical election” had they really done the job they were supposed to do, eh? Not only that, but their “hottie hero” was just so much more appealing to cover than “boring old McCain” and “loony Sarah.”

And I’m not under any delusion that this viewpoint will “stick” with the AP – or any other MSM outlet that adopts a similar viewpoint. The first GOP politico who even comes close to uttering an even vaguely racist remark and/or the first person remotely affiliated with the GOP who makes a stupid racially-tinged “joke” will have the AP “re-evaluating” their original analysis.

As to whether or not the belated “pushback” from the admin, certain Dems in the Congress, and the MSM will have the effect of moderating the tone of the debate coming from the left? I doubt it will have much of an impact, but as they say, stay tuned.

During the campaign, Obama was first to play the “race card” and he did so willingly. Once you open that door—- it may be difficult to close. Others, including the Attny General & Carter, will take his lead and run with it. If it backfires–and it just might–it will confirm your earlier post that OB has done more damage then good in the venue of race relations. However, corruption should be exposed, no matter which party is culpable.

    ST,

I know you’ve heard me say this to you before, but to reconfirm I haven’t changed my mind: The MSM have a vested interest in talking up “race,” because it allows them a simple narrative (as well as the chance to write long thinkpieces that nobody reads but that win Pulitzers).

The real problem isn’t race; it’s social class. But we aren’t allowed to talk about class in America. (We don’t even have a vocabulary to do it, so that when we dare try, we end up in Marxist babble.) Ah, but class is there alright.

The thing that makes America different is that while Marx, I guess, assumed that the proletariat would bring the bourgeoisie down to its level and everyone would share equally, he never realized that there would be societies where the proles would WANT to become bourgois. (And notice, again, I’m having to use Marxist terms here.)

Ah well. “And so we beat on, boats against the current.”

This new admission by AP will last as long as they keep that unicorn and leprechaun around in the office.

In other words, look for the end of their “revelation” sometime this afternoon or tomorrow.

Meanwhile, it would be nice if they exposed some real racism – say, at Trinity, or the WH staff, or…

Too many words are devalued by their imprecise and careless usage: racist, sexist, homophobe, socialist, traitor. Some perfectly good words like “discrimination” have lost almost all their meaning.

It’s good that the AP has belatedly come to the party. Let us be careful not to unwittingly copy their excesses.

Yes, yes, yes. Obama is missing such a great moment to move all of us away from the abuse the english language for the sake of minimizing the other person rather than dealing specifically with the argument at hand.

Stating “duh” to the AP seems too easy… however, the word “duh” is likely racist, too, so what do I know?

According to race-baiting moron Maxine Waters (D-CA), all the protesters in DC in the March on the Capitol this past weekend were not only ALL racists, they’re all homosexuals, too.

Who’s running against Waters? California needs to vote her bigoted, hateful tush OUT of CA government.

I want to start a campaign against Grey Poupon. If I remember correctly, it was advertised years ago for those with “discriminating” taste, an obvious reference to being too good for people of color.

I don’t know, ST. The al-AP article in the link still pushed the wacko notion that racists are lurking under every bed. The quote from the Brian D. Smedley revealed more about how isolated ivory-tower academics like himself are from the real world than it did about the nation he seems to despise.

I think that Smedley, al-AP and the Far Left in general still firmly believe that all of the Won’s opponents are evil racists, but are distressed that such accusations may backfire. Remember how the pants-down Presidency of William Jefferson Clinton wiped out NOW’s influence? Something similar could happen to the NAACP, La Raza and other racist organizations.
