Elevators.
Seven years and three months ago, I was doing a public policy internship in Downtown D.C. while I was home for the summer from law school. I remember going home from the Metro station, running in a zig-zag across a street until I could get to the park and the safety of the darkness – on the million-to-one chance that the man we soon knew as John Allen Muhammad had me in his sights.
This was only about a mile and a half down two roads from the Home Depot at Seven Corners where he claimed one of his Virginia victims.
I was afraid, I was helpless, and even tho the lamestream media was claiming it was white racists, I correctly assumed that all of a sudden I was right there on the front lines in The War On Terror.
Tonight, the fear is gone forever.
Bye Bye, John Allen. May God have mercy on your soul.
How’s this for a veteran’s day story!!!
