I don’t see the problem. She didn’t say she bought into it or would pursue it; she just said it’s a fair question to ask — and it is. I mean, notwithstanding the Supreme Court telling us that nobody has standing on the matter, surely someone – everyone – must.

I’m all for Sarah choosing how to frame the debate than letting the Left control the debate by controlling what we are and aren’t allowed to say. We’re all so very sensitive about such things because the Left has long ago won that battle. If we call Obama “Barack Hussein Obama” it’s instantly used against us, as if we were racists for using his entire name. It’s silly to let them continue to get away with this, and if we won’t take a stand now — in 2009! — when will we?

So, I’m all for letting Sarah say whatever she wants, however she wants, so long as the content is on message. And, from what I’ve seen, she is always on message. That’s one smart lady. Period.

Her statement on this shows she is not going to go along with the collective MSM-think. The media doesn’t want to report on anything that might make Chairman Bao look bad so they ignore these stories and attack anyone that tries to make an issue out of it. Palin is saying she doesn’t care what the media says. People can ask questions of elected officials and they need to respond instead of attacking the person asking the question. There are a lot questions Bao doesn’t want asked.

Just to add my two cents…..just a reflection on the response to this snippet of an interview. Sarah has made a bit of a stumble in some folks eyes because she brought up an issue that they haven’t quite come to terms with in my opinion. They are searching for reasons to qualify the fact that what we really KNOW about Obama’s birth records. Lou Dobbs got in trouble for this, too, and all he did was say to the Obama people…if you have nothing to hide why not show the records and put this baby to bed!

What we got was not just silence, but an expensive bit of lawyer-ing to keep things quiet.

That is a red flag to me….if it doesn’t make you the tiniest bit curious I would question the critical thinking part of your brain.

But what we have here is a modern-day rendition of the Emperor’s New Clothes. Sarah Palin, felt to be a rank beginner and political unknown has the audacity to say that Obama has no cover. No wonder the press wants to muzzle her.

Very good reflections on this. I would add that every candidate, like every human being, has both good and bad elements that they trail behind them into whatever venue they enter. A person’s past ought not to be an issue for their present intent UNLESS it has direct bearing on their ability to perform the job (i.e. alcoholic past may impede operating heavy machinery in the present; felony in the past may impede handling sensitive documents in the present). Consequently, having a daughter who has an out of wedlock son may be seen as a negative mark but not as an impediment to performing the office. Being born in a foreign country is a direct impediment to assuming the presidency and could involve “foreign entanglements” as Washington said.

I suspect that one of the reasons he has not released his birth certificate, along with a variety of other things, is that there is something in it that would be embarrassing. I have no reason to believe that he was not born in Hawaii, but to not release the long form is suspicious. What bothers me more is the way the whole picture pans out. No one remembers him at Columbia; There were no writings during his days as editor of the Harvard Law Review. He seems to have no friends from his days in Hawaii, or later from his days in College. The associations, and friendships that he did manage, and we know about are guys like Ayers, Dorne, Wright, Flugar, etc. My problem is that the man is a shadow, and we know little to nothing about who he is or where he came from.

BO can produce the birth certificate and end all of this. When you don’t release college transcripts and graduate school thesis or grades you create all this speculation . The media never vetted this man. I don’t consider myself a “birther” because I would like to see all these documents that are normally released so the public can evaluate all aspects of a candidate. He chose to be a public figure which basically puts you under public scrutiny. What is he hiding???

Only his Long Form Birth Certificate (NOT a Certification of Live Birth) can prove his citizenship. It is ridiculous to say that a hospital (of course, two hospitals have claimed Obama was born there then both rescinded – so he must have been born in the cab…) record is locked up by the state and a certified copy cannot be obtained by anyone, even the President of the United States. And you cannot amend the Hospital, Doctor’s signatures, etc. on a Birth Certificate which is why the useless for purposes of proving citizenship Short Form Certfication of Live Birth is amendable – it doesn’t include any of those fields which would prove citizenship.

If Obama was born in Hawaii case closed, he’s a citizen. But he’s gone to extraordinary lengths and expense (now using taxpayer funded lawyers) to avoid disclosing any number of documents and paper trails that would reveal the truth, whatever it might be. There’s no way this won’t be an issue IF he decides to run again in 2012, assuming he hasn’t destroyed the constitution by then – but it’s amazing how much we let him get away with already.

The problem with both those arguments is that hawaii(like many states) issue a wide range of documents that fall under whats called a “birth cert”.

Hawaii has about 8 different kinds of birth certs alone.

Then you get into the amended vs original. Obama can have his short form birth cert amended to say any number of things. His mother who married many times and traveled alot could have had it amended for her many marriages.

For a Passport, driver license, SSN card an amended or short form birth cert is all you need. Plus you don’t need to be born inside the US to get any of those things… and in fact many illegal aliens have valid birth certs, drivers licenses, passports and SSN cards.

Many non-US born citizens have had the short form birth certs amended to say they were born in the US… its not really uncommon, many times to due with adoption… of which obama was adopted.

The problem also comes in just because he was indeed born in hawaii still doesn’t mean he meets the requirements to be president. The “Natural Born Citizen” clause is the US Constitution was basically and almost SOLELY written for one reason…

To keep british subjects, citizens, ppl from being elected(or buying an election) to the office of president and thus turning the US back over to england.

The irony of this whole debate is that obama is/was a british subject/citizen…

Which means that the “Natural Born Citizen” clause was expressly written to prevent him from being elected.

Obama is the text book definition of what the founding fathers wanted to prevent from happening when they wrote that requirement.

So in the end run his place of birth isn’t the biggest issue. The problem is that once again obama been adopted, his mom has married a number of time, and a host of other issues mean that his short form what ever it says is completely useless in either proving that he is or is not legal to be president.

Even if his short form said he was born in another country thats not proof that he was really born in another country. The same with his parents… they may not be his real parents… many adoption cases legally change the names of the birth parents on the short form birth cert.

In the end the short form birth cert proves nothing for anyone on either side of the debate.

The press has seen the COLB (certificate of live birth) not the birth certificate (sometimes referred to as the “long form”).
A COLB will prove that you are a citizen, but it does nothing to prove “natural born” citizenship status. Only the original birth certificate (“long form”) can prove “natural born” status.
The Obama campaign has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to defend their right not to show the document, which seems a bit odd when the whole matter could be disposed of in minutes for next to nothing by simply showing the “long form” document to the press.

I personally would be satisfied if it were shown to John McCain and he said it looked “perfectly legal.”

I’m waiting for some state to require proof of “natural born” status prior to putting a name on the ballot to put this to rest.

smrstrauss, Barack Obama could ORDER the State of Hawaii to surrender HIS records, and release them to the public. He is hiding something. My guess is that his mother checked the race-box that marked him as “white”.
