And it just keeps getting worse

Sigh. From a transcript of today’s press briefing with DHS Sec. Janet Napolitano and John Brennan, Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism (via Keep America Safe):

Q What was the most shocking, stunning thing that you found out of the review [of the watchinlisting system]? And, Secretary, to you, as well.

MR. BRENNAN: Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula is an extension of al Qaeda core coming out of Pakistan. And, in my view, it is one of the most lethal and one of the most concerning of it. The fact that they had moved forward to try to execute this attack against the homeland I think demonstrated to us — and this is what the review sort of uncovered — that we had a strategic sense of sort of where they were going, but we didn’t know they had progressed to the point of actually launching individuals here. And we have taken that lesson, and so now we’re full on top of it.

SECRETARY NAPOLITANO: I think, following up on that, not just the determination of al Qaeda and al Qaeda Arabian Peninsula, but the tactic of using an individual to foment an attack, as opposed to a large conspiracy or a multi-person conspiracy such as we saw in 9/11, that is something that affects intelligence. It really emphasizes now the renewed importance on how different intelligence is integrated and analyzed, and threat streams are followed through. And, again, it will impact how we continue to review the need to improve airport security around the world.

Here’s video of their respective remarks:

Kind of reminds me of candidate Obama’s cluelessness last year on AQ being in Iraq.

These two are just now figuring this out about AQ? And it “shocks” them? Oh brother. :o

I can’t decide whether Napolitano is an idiot, thinks we’re idiots, or some combination of the two. For example:

…but the tactic of using an individual to foment an attack, as opposed to a large conspiracy or a multi-person conspiracy such as we saw in 9/11, that is something that affects intelligence.

She’s acting as if this is something different, some new strategy al Qaeda has thought up to foil our defenses.

Hello? Madame Secretary? Ever hear of “suicide bombers?” Just what the heck have we been dealing with in Iraq and Afghanistan the last 7.5 years? There is nothing new about individual suicide bombers, from Richard Reid to the jihadi who blew up our CIA agents last week. For Secretary “The System Worked” Napolitano to act otherwise is just midboggling.

Whether she really is this dumb or is just blowing smoke, she has to go.

This administration, in its entirety and in its fantasy-stoked reality, is entirely clueless as to what danger this country is in. Need proof? Take a look and listen to everything that has been said in the last two months about terrorism, how the system has worked (and if it hasn’t it’s GWB’s fault), and how they’re gonna jawbone the enemy to death by boredom.

You know, I know, anyone with an IQ of more than 85 knows that some day the pigs of the desert are going to fly a plane into some national treasure again, or blow the plane up trying. My only hope is that the people killed are the ones too stupid to know it (like this administration) or too focused on how to create a socialist paradise (like this administration). It would be poetic justice that their own incompetence destroyed their own administration (as opposed to their incompetence at overseeing a constitutional republic destroying that republic).

  3. Big Dave says:

Napolitano is a fool and should be fired along with Brennan. We can do better than this. I fly a lot and I guarentee that I scrutinize my felow passengers to see if there is any that I need to worry about, profiling, its not just for citizens anymore- TSA needs to give it a try.

  4. Hmmm.... says:

They gave her a job that she wasn’t ready to handle and she leapt at it because it was important. Incompitano needs to be set to working at a fastfood restaurant. That’s all the reponsibility that she is ready to handle.

  5. SpeakEasy says:

She got the job because of one very important qualification: the ability to follow orders without questioning them. Original thinking does not come with that skill set.

  6. Marshall Art says:

    “Incompitano”!!! Perfect! :d

But really, there are few in this administration who isn’t in over their heads. And I gotta say, as much as I saw no difference between Barry and Hillary during the primaries, somehow I feel we’d be much better off had she gotten the nod and then won. And I really, really can’t believe I just said that.

  7. LogicalUS says:

This is what we get by electing a corrupt Chicago hack who repays Democrat cronies with national security positions.

Napolitano at Homeland Security, Panetta at CIA, Hillary Clinton at State.

People are going to die in huge numbers because of Leftist silly notions of unicorns and barbies.

  8. Carlos says:

Marshall, the difference between Hillarious and John-Boy is the difference between 25 cents and a quarter. The advantage of having Hillarious for prez would be that the jackasses couldn’t blame a Republican prez for stinking up the country.

As it is now, El Incompetano is in so far over his head (as is every other appointee of his) that even Ahnold Terminator would look magnificent (if he was qualified – and he may be just as qualified as what we’ve got – we may never know for sure).

  9. Sarah says:

The people in this administration are in WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY over their heads – so clueless about things that they’re supposed to have at least a vague idea about, like terrorism.

  10. JohnFLob says:

Perhaps they, the BHO Chicago gang, don’t want to solve the Islamic terrorism threat problem. They continue to confuse the issue(s) to keep it at the top of the news cycle. This creative confusion will be used to distract us from their Health Care disaster. They hope we focus on the panty bomber and ignore their back-room tyranny.

  11. Anthony says:

    Marshall:

The difference between Hillary and the Light Worker is that Hillary, unlike Obama, has a steel spine. She showed that by fighting him in the primaries to the bitter end. On domestic issues, she’s just as much to the Left as he. But when dealing with jihadists, I have no doubt that Lady Macbeth would whack whoever needed it, just to prove she’s as tough as any man.

  12. Steve M. says:

So you saw this coming? You knew AQ in the Arabian Peninsula had the wherewithal to launch an attack?

Can you point me to the post where you said that?

  13. Brontefan says:

So why do so many people keep telling me this guy [BO} is an intellectual? He appoints czars the circumvent our political vetting system–many of them crooks, the rest are radicals–and his basic ideology is to be TRANSPARENT about National Security but maintain ultimate secrecy about the healthcare bill he intends to INFLICT on the American public? How smart can he really be if he thinks you can negotiate with terrorists who want us dead?

  14. Betty says:

Problem is obama is either as clueless as Napolitano is or he doesn’t want to offend the muslims. Also part of the problem..the democrats who still think obama is wonderful.

I agree completely about the steel spine. We would not be having these discussions about how many terrorists should be sent back to Yemen to resume their jihads if Hillary were president.

And yes, she’s a far left on domestic issues as Obama is, but here’s where they’re different: she is more practical. Obama has this sense of entitlement, that he’s some sort of anointed one, and cannot deal with criticism or opposition and adjust to them. Hillary can do both.

Look at Bill Clinton’s presidency as an example. He started out just as far left as Obama, until the voters slapped him down hard in the 1994 mid-terms. After that, he minimized much of the damage by co-opting conservative positions when convenient and taking credit for them. Welfare reform, for example. Can you picture the Bill Clinton of 1993 or 1994 signing on to that? Not a chance. But once the handwriting was on the wall, he was shrewd enough to go along with it and act like it was his idea all along.

I’d expect much the same from Hillary, but not Obama. He simply doesn’t have that kind of political intelligence and maturity.

  16. bill glass says:

bronte – ditto ….they’re intellectual dipsh!ts – we all know the type, and put up with them. when they are in charge, though, they’ll get everyopne killed… listening to these clowns reminds me of high school level thinking, each obvious point is to them a great revelation. being at war and killing the enemy is somehow unimportant to these bozos.

  17. Kate says:

I have a feeling the the DNC knows that OBama will be a one term president if they don’t get their important social welfare programs implemented. They put him in over Hillary to do just that, in the guise of a historic election. They were not concerned with national security at any point in time except to give lip service and palliate voters concerns.

This El Incompitento must go…heads should roll. This would prove that Obama is actually concerned with the situation in Yemen. But, of course, this throws a monkey wrench into the works as he wants to dump Gitmo detainees back to their home countries…and many are from Yemen. That’s a mistake that Bush made and came a bit him in the behind! SO will Gitmo be in limbo? Will Obama get serious about national security? Stay tune kiddies…and say a prayer that our muslim brothers are not planning another stage of attacks with these bozos in office.

  18. Bill says:

Osama bin Laden and his boys will be sleeping more soundly tonight knowing Obama and Napolitano are on the job.

Peeking out from under the tinfoil hat, Steve bleats:

So you saw this coming? You knew AQ in the Arabian Peninsula had the wherewithal to launch an attack?

Can you point me to the post where you said that?

Straw man. You’re claiming ST said something she didn’t say. What she said was this:

Kind of reminds me of candidate Obama’s cluelessness last year on AQ being in Iraq.

These two are just now figuring this out about AQ? And it “shocks” them?

So what shocks this administration is that AQ remains determined to bring about their warped dream of a global caliphate, and that they will continue to attack, whenever and wherever they can. They’re shocked that AQ is that way even though your Moonbat Messiah is in the Oval Office and has spent countless hours apologizing to them (many more hours than he’s spent on learning about AQ, apparently).

They’re shocked that AQ tried to attack. I’ll bet they’re just as shocked when the sun rises in the east each morning (“Damn, Michelle, look!! Who’d have guessed?? I never saw that coming.”)

To hold such a view of AQ requires that you be either jaw-droppingly stupid, hopelessly naive, or weapons-grade narcissistic. Or all of the above.

And if you think the same way, congratulations, Steve. Call the White House now. They might have a executive position for you in the DHS or the CIA.

  20. Carlos says:

I bow to your response to Steve, GWR. An absolutely wonderful use of language, nuance, and identifying stupidity for what it is – by both Steve and his messianic master.

  21. GWR, tip o’ the hat to you, sir. Well said, as always. I thought my point was pretty obvious, but I guess when one is in excuse-making mode for this administration, as it appears Steve is, even the most obvious of points just fly straight over their head.

BTW, Steve – you forgot to blame Bush.

  22. Russ says:

I dont believe these people are inept or stupid, it is just they have complete contempt for most Americans. How else can one explain the push for Health Care and Cap and Trade while unemployeement is 10 + percent. While Obama barely acknowleges terror incidents he sure was johnny on the spot in the Cambridge Police incident. Why do they not understand the threat terrorist pose while qickly eing able to id Tea Party People, Veterans, Gun Owners ect as ” threats” ? It might be because terrorist are not a threat to their highly secured world yet the American voters can throw them out of office
